How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, ...And then there are just - You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. But when I call you Nigger, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Spic, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day . You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. (White Entertainment Television) If we had a White Pride Day ... You would call us racists. If we had White History Month If we had any organization for only whites We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Wonder who pays for that? If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships ... You know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US , yet if there were one "White-only College" ... THAT would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, ... You would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer who is running from the LAW and posing a threat to ALL of society ... You call him a racist. ... But, you call me a racist. can be racists? Do you feel this way? |

Yes I do feel this way. I did not in the past though. There is no such thing as racial discrimination for the white male now and that is not fair. This was even so back when I was in the service - 20 something years ago. A person should be judged on their merit and their contribution in life....not by the color of their skin. I think it is quite interesting that I can get mail from the NAACP asking for donations to their cause but I cannot be a member because of the color of my skin.................. When I fill out forms now, I list my race as "Other" and put in "Euro American." Since no one else seems to have just a single heritage, I should be able to choose a hyphenated name also (even though I think that after 3-4 generations here within the USA should make it easier to drop the Histo, Afro, Asian prefix). Personally, I think that the American Indians are the only one that deserves to have that extra word placed along with American. I am looking for that elusive Melungeon line that I am sure my family has...and when I find it I am going to place out resumes telling businesses that I can fill 5 different minority slots all at one time for them - disabled veteran, female, Afro-American, Native American, and Mediterreanen American! *backing away from my soap box now* adair |

here here!! I don't normally post on issues but this one is one that I definitely agree with.........I AM PROUD to be white. Just like other races are proud of their heritage. I do not take responsiblity for what my forefathers might have done to any one race, but I do take responsibility for the way I treat all mankind. |

I'm not proud or embarassed about being white. I'm proud of being nice. I'm embarrassed when I'm not. I just am what I am. Just like people who aren't white are what they are. I don't mind being a minority. I don't understand any hyphenated description of any ethnicity with American. South Americans are American . Canadians are American. I think we, in the US, have arrogantly appropriated that designation, like there's no America but the US.. a I also think it's hysterically funny ( and Ironic) that people get so hot under the collar when they spout off about all the so-called minorities "taking over the country". Like it belongs to ANY one... I know more non-whites whose families have been in the United States far longer than many of the white folks who are yelling "reverse descrimination". So, whose country is it again??? To me, it's just another case of people being afraid of losing their power. I really wonder about the person who originally wrote "why is it that only whites can be racists"... Anyone who lives in a multi-cultural society (as the United States ALWAYS has been), knows full well that there is even racism within races and cultures. I also firmly believe that racism is actually much less an issue than socio-economic prejudice. The color of someone's skin magically becomes less troublesome if they have enough money to not only move into your neighborhood, but keep up or surpass the Jonses'. If their kids are well behaved, they can be purple. If they keep up the yard and vote and dress nicely and obey the law they can be plaid. On the other hand, how many of us would prefer living next to Meth making trailer trash because they were white instead a dark skinned surgeon that's president of his church, and loves puttering in his garden. I think being proud of your color is pretty shallow. JMHO. |

The writer was stating a point..one I totally agree with. Nowhere does it say the writer is worried about being a minority. Nowhere is the writer judging people. The writer is is asking why is it white people are labeled racists. You cannot deny that the white race has been labeled racist. If the white person doesn't vote for the black person running for president..well don't you know why? Because he is a racist. I am not shallow and I am proud that I am white. Just as the black ,pink, purple, blue, woman standing next to me can say they are proud of their skin color and I would respect that. And I would not like living next to a meth house PERIOD, regardless of who lived there. But, I would mind living next to a dark skinned man who is a surgeon, gardener, and president of his church......if he was a RACIST. BTW...I am paying attention. |

You certainly are, LOL!! . I thnk my objection to the piece is that there is the assumption that non-whites are not labeled racist. In my experience, non whites exhibiting racist behavior are labelled racists as quickly. I also wonder where the author lives and at what period of time - that the epithets he mentions are bandied about -. Without exaggeration, and with just a few exceptions, I haven't heard those words iused freely in 30-40 years... and I live in an area where there is probably every ethnic and racial group is represented. No doubt there are racists around- ( you just rarely hear that language) and when you do, it is as likely to come from an non- white (actually more likely). I've had people say such things to me... my feeling is they're just looking for a reaction; I don't back down and do question their need to make a non-racial issue a racial one. A few months ago a non-white woman cut "jumped" the bus line, and when my daughter and I objected, it got pretty heated ( as only new yorkers can, LOL).When the woman brought a racial slant to it, I stood over her and said " Is that all you've GOT?" She backed down. I agree with what you say about the neighbors. I neglected to mention the dear Dr. was by no means a racist.(LOL!) I understand national pride. I understand ethnic pride. Seeing as people of the same ethnic background can have different skin tones, pride in the color of your skin- escapes me. It's like being proud of your height. I must appologize for my comments on all people from countries in North & South Americans being Americans. I knew what you were talking about. I was just being argumentative. Sorry. Bad Linda. |

AllinAll, I'm proud of being an American.I think ppl of all ethnic groups should be too.As for these groups that only offer aid to a specific race, I think THAT's racist. They should help ppl who just need HELP.Especially the college funds,it's a BIG waste for any kid of ANY race who has worked hard all through school but just can't afford a college education. Let's All Go ColorBlind & Just Say We're Americans! |

Lindush, I was reading all your comments and agreeing up until you used the term trailer park trash. Since I am a trailer dweller, I do take offense at that term. I know the helplessness people of another race or socioeconomic class feel when a derogatory term is used. I am forgiving you because I know people make insensitive remarks without thinking. |

Abs-I don't blame you about the Trailer Trash term either. Most of my family lives in (or has lived in)Trailer Parks. It's VERY unfair, just like the south is bombarded with terms about Rednecks. CC20010 |

every area has it's own terms and prejudices. I grew up at the beach and because I was blonde there were always cracks about me being a "beach bunny" without any brains in my head. I think everyone needs to remember that there are some in every race or area that stand out in a negative way which causes people to label them with names. I try not to take it personal because I know who I am and what I am. |

lindush you said and I quote, " I don't back down and do question their need to make a non-racial issue a racial one." I think that was indeed the writers point. Any how LoL...I would like to know who wrote this just out of curiosity? Do you know angelbear? |

MyzteriouzWayz- I don't know who wrote it. There have been rumors but no clarification that I can find. It was sent to me in e-mail and has been passed around over the years so far. |

Im sorta with Jacki on this. Besides .. we are all created equally in the eyes of God. No one person regardless of skin color , crimes committed, college education funds, wars, wealth , poverty, or whatever changes the fact that no person is better or less than another. Just my opinion. |

Living in a trailer park does not make a person trailer park trash. Being trash does.Living the south does not make a person a Redneck.Living In California does not make a person a Beach Bunny. You can be Park Avenue trash just as easily. (sometimes more easily) . I did not mean to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I did so; it was insensitive of me.. |

Thank you, Linda. It is a term that grates on me every time I hear it. Such terms do lump people together. I do appreciate your reply. Hugs, joan |
