I am looking for info on the following family, children all born in
Ballingarry (I think!?). Still trying to locate where the parents
were born:
>
> Parents: Patrick NORTON/KNOCKTON/NAUGHTON & Mary EGAN/EGLEAN
(married 1828 Ireland)
>
> 1) Mary NORTON - 15 Feb 1829/30 - Ballingarry, Tipp
> 2) Thomas NORTON - abt 1830
> 3) Ellen NORTON - abt 1832
> 4) Julia/Judy NORTON - 21 May 1834 - Ballingarry, Tipp
> 5) Edward NORTON - abt 1836
> 6) Catherine NORTON - 1840
>
> I'm guessing that Thomas, Ellen, Edward and Catherine were born in
> Ballingarry as Mary and Julia/Judy were.
>
They came out to Australia on the Isabella, arriving abt 18 October
> 1840 as bounty emigrants. After arriving in Aust they settled in
the Wollondilly River area
(nr Goulburn) of NSW where they stayed for many years before ending up
in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
>
> More children born in Aust (?Goulburn area):
>
> John NORTON - 16 November 1843
> Ann/e - 25 February 1846
> Bridget - no birth death info on her unfortunately
>
> Can anyone help - I would like to confirm these details but don't
> know where to go now.
>
> Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
>
> Cheers
> Julie

Hi there Mike,

Hope you are well. Since posting the above (I wasn't sure where to put it so thank you for moving to the right spot) someone has come up with a possible area of Co Kilkenny - through the IFHF site. I'll get on to that this week. Either way anything you can tell me would be terrifitc!

Cheers,
Julie

Subject: Catherine NORTON born 1840 Tipperary Ireland
Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2000 20:12:23 +1000

Hi....I would appreciate any info on Catherine NORTON born 1840 Tipperary Ireland and her husband John Robert DAVIS born 1838 Tyrone Ireland. They had a son Edward Patrick DAVIS born 1864 at Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia. He married Emma May MANNING in 1897 at Caulfield, Melbourne, Victoria. Catherine's parents were Patrick/Peter NORTON from Ireland and his wife......I think she was Mary EGAN born 1803 at Tipperary Ireland..... both emigrated to Australia in 1840. They were married in 1928 in Ireland. Thanks
Belinda Turvey

Julie i know this may confuse you,But there are two Ballingarry in Tipperary One is in the north of Tipperary And the Other is on the Border of Kilkenny.
I know from Searching that a lot of Croke Family May have Come from The Kilkenny Area.So the Chances are the Nortons came also from that Area.
And possibly in Kilkenny.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for all this - I'm leaning towards the Balligarry nr the Kilkenny border now. I can see there's a lot to find out so I'll get cracking on it ASAP. You know, sometimes I wish mum's papers hadn't come to me - but there's no way I can stop - it's too addictive. Also, you come across people such as yourself who are so willing to help. It is much appreciated!!!

Cheers,
Julie
