Hello
Can anyone help with this one, John Nile has been my brickwall for a couple of years now. He was born according to the 1841, 51 & 61 census in Plymouth 1804, he married in 1825 in Maker, Cornwall to Mary Ann Brooks, and lived there for a couple of years then ended up in Plymouth he died in 1869 and I have found his grave in Ford Park, Plymouth. I can find no record of his birth though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Mike

If my John was a tailor and the census suggests this, he would have done some sort of apprentiship, if this is correct would there be and who would hold such records

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul i think that depends on where. His father may have been a tailor also. And he learned the trade from him.
Or as you said he may have had an apprentiship,Learning from another tailor.
The thing is there May have been a shop involved,if so then it would have been registered in a directory,so worth checking.

Paul in the last message click on apprenticeship, and follow what it says.
Might give you some ideas.I notice it says after he would have trained at a vocational School,While being payed by the employer.Im wondering if you may be able to find a School record of him

Paul i will look up some sections for you,And get back.

The directories mostly used .
Post office directories
kellys directory
There are a few more
Ref to the Apprenticeship,Will have to check it out

May also be worth contacting churches for a Baptism Cert in Plymouth. As he was born Pre registration period
It Could take time as several churches.
The london Archives,Hold most parish records, but im not sure about plymouth.
IF he was registered  pre 1837,the record would be held in Bishops Transcripts.
School registers can often help to,its finding them also
Will get back as soon as i can find anything PAUL
