Welcome, Robi!
I am also new.
As far as the recipes, I wont be much help.
The calories are calculated using so many factors~  Your current weight, your height, your goal weight, and your activity level.  I am  5'8" and I weigh 168lbs.  I don't do much in the way of exercise right now, and the program I am on has me eating between 1200 and 1500 calories a day.  I know you don't want to go much below 1200 long-term.
I also read (I think in oprah's mag) that you should  'trick' your body by altering the # of cals you eat each day: one week have 1200, and then have 1800 for a day or two, then back down.
I don't use 'recipes', which can be boring, but it is helpful to me to know exactly how many calories a meal has.  I get confused when I add more ingredients.   So I eat things like baked chicken breast w/ lots of steamed veggies, and cottage cheese with fruit. . .  I keep it simple.
I don't eat refined sugar foods~  this keeps my cravings in check.
I hope this helps,
Jennifer
