My mother had the ability to turn anything into something beautiful

A string, piece of paper, etc. once it was in my mama’s hand it became something of worth, usefulness and beauty.

Christmas at our house was a happy-sad day for my mother. I remember her trying to give us a Christmas that she just could not afford.

She made all of our gifts and helped and taught us how to make-up gifts for each other.

I remember when Sue was just a toddler, mama helped me make a ‘ball?for her Christmas gift.

She tore-up colorful quilt scrap’s in long strips (about 2;in wide) which I wound around and around into a Big ball. She then coated it with diluted ‘Elmer’s glue?(I part water to 2 parts glue)

The ball was very pretty…it did not bounce well; but it rolled just beautifully.

Baby Sue Loved it.

I remember this. Every year Mother would get all her quilt scraps (cut from old clothes). We used newspaper to cut out our own patterns. She and I would start sewing things for the little ones' Christmas, on an old treddle machine. One year, Sue was just 2, Mother was busy doing something else in another room of the house, she had told me to use whatever I would too. So I placed everything on the bed that I though was the prettyest. I got carried away and cut out 23 dresses for Suehehehehe When I finished, I went to Mother and told her I was ready to sew (I was so proud of myself). "Ok Honey" she said..we went into the bedroom and I pointed at the stack of fabric. Mother said, "Oh Honey, who is all this for?" I said, "Tiny Sue." She counted the dress sets and thought for a minute then said, "Well, I don't think she needs all dresses. Why don't you pick out about 5 of these and we'll use some of the others to piece her a baby quilt too." That was just what we did I even made a matching quilt for her doll and a Head Scarp for Redda and a shirt for Bubba.
I loved sewing with Mama, she would sing as she sewed, most of the time, "Coat of many colors." She had more patients teaching us arts and crafts, than anyone I know. She always seem to make it a fun thing for me, since I was the only girl that showed any interest in sewing back then. Those times inspired my sewing business as an adult. I love you Mama!

I would give my all for that Christmas again.
Bless her Heart.

Most would have said I have nothing to give not mother .
She did the samething when it came to the Lord, always giving her all
no matter how small it may have seemed
God Rest Her in his arms.
Ill always be her baby .
Sue
