Apple Breakfast Strata
Yield: 4 to 6 servings
4 to 6 large slices sourdough, French or Italian bread,
cut into 1-inch cubes (5-6 cups cubes)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cut into cubes
1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 to 3 tablespoons sifted powdered sugar
Maple syrup or fruit-flavored syrup
Place 1/2 of bread cubes in an ungreased 11 X 7-inch baking dish.
Cover evenly with all of cream cheese cubes
Sprinkle with chopped apple.
Top evenly with remaining bread cubes.
Beat eggs slightly.
Add milk and cinnamon and whisk until well blended.
Pour over bread mixture in dish.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake in preheated 375-degree oven 35 minutes or until set.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Serve with maple or a fruit syrup.
