Depression
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:2
We all struggle with depression at one time or another. Some struggle more than others and we each handle it in various ways.
I took the time to look up the definition of depression and found it to be quite interesting.
I will share the definition of how it relates to humans as there are other definitions as well.
Depression is: a state of feeling sad; a psychotic disorder marked by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant decrease or increase in appetite and time spent sleeping; feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes, suicidal tendencies.
Some people struggle with depression because of a genuine physical problem of some sort and for those that do, they may need medication to help them.
We would not neglect our bodies anywhere else if medication was needed, so there is nothing wrong with using medication when needed to strengthen the body in this area as well.
But then there is also depression that is caused by oppression from the enemy at times.
Sometimes we open the door ourselves for the enemy to come in. Then we find ourselves depressed and defeated.
The enemy wants to destroy us and what better way can he do it then by bringing us to the point of despair and depression.
When we find ourselves feeling this way we can ask ourselves some questions and do a little heart check of our own.
Is there something physical going on in my body that is causing me to feel this way?
Is there any medication that I am taking that could possibly be causing me to feel depressed?
Is there unconfessed sin in my life?
Am I in a state of rebellion towards God?
Am I in a spiritual dry place and need some refreshing from God's Word?
Am I focusing too much on my circumstances?
Am I focusing too much on ME and not enough on HIM?
By doing a heart check it is the beginning of change and finding answers on how to handle it.
