In trying to learn more about bi-poplar--I have several questions--What is the statics of women compared to men? What is the average age one is dx with bi-poplar? Is there a difference in premature births compared to full term babies? What are the early signs a parent should start recognizing signs? Is it true that this is a skipped generation  illness? My daughter is bi-poplar--and she has a daughter who she believes need to be on medication and will be dx with ADD herself. She is very smart and I think she is bored and needs to be challenged. I do not want them putting nher meds she does not need however, she wakes up in the middle of the night and colors on the walls and glues  paper on the walls and likes to watch tv all times of the night. Should one be thinking this is a sign or is this a normal 4 and a half who can't sleep and knows mom is sleeping.

meatcutterdaughter, I am still surching info for you sweetie. Below in other posts you will find a couple of things that I did find that I thought you may want to read about childhoold bipolor. From things that I have read so far, they will momator the child but will not medicate the child until she is older, so far the youngest I have found was age 8. It seems ADD-ADDH and BP, they are very close realted, and can go along with each other. They are not quick to label or treat children of very young ages. From what you have said of your granddaughter, it maybe a just a child being board and resless acting out in the middle of the night. It's hard to say, I'm not a dr and am afraid to guess as this is a seriouse matter and does not need to be taken lighly, but then may not need to be taken to the extram eirther. It may just be a panicy mother. However I do feel this need to be attention.

What is the adverage age one is dx with BP? This is changing all the time as ppl are more aware and are seeking the help for it eirlier now. They did say it was between 18-24. My daughter was dx and treated as a pre teen.

Is there a differance in premature births compared to full turm babies? No, I have not seen or heard of anything to support this.

Is it true this is a skipped generation? Not usaly, but it can.
