Soft Spice Bars

3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 1/8 cup sugar, divided
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp salt
In a mixing bowl, combine butter, 1 cup sugar and molasses. Beat in egg until smooth. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt; stir into the molassses mixture. Spread into greasted 15 x 10 x 1" baking pan. Sprinkle with remaining sugar. Bake at 375° for 10 -12 minutes or until lightly browned. Do not overbake. Cool on a wire rack before cutting
