This sort of problem is what my experiences have been when opening a hand like East held. The auction often presents me with very difficult decisions because I cannot show the two suited nature of my hand without suggesting much more in the way of high card strength. I have had much more success with an initial pass. Later, I can often show the two suiter (we have toys that do that in competitive auctions!) and partner will clearly interpret my strength as strictly playing strength.
I must admit I would open 1S with the east hand( if I open at all as a later Michaels bid shows the hand better) . Also East has denied 3H with the 2S bid due to the lack of a support dbl.

Yes.
It would at least show the hugely unbalanced 5/6 hand and prevented the DBL of 5D. But, I understand the reluctance to bid it lacking the promised hcp strength.
But if 3S is DBLed, you have the 4H runout. Then if South continues with 5D, partner knows of your shortness im Diam and would compete instead of doubling.
With dblton diam and 7h, i don't see how West has a clear dbl. So West should pass and East will bid 5H bid. Over the dbl and with highly unexpected distributional hand, I think East shud pull the X anyway.
