Singles Dating Safely
Physical Safety
Males:
Keep this is mind when you are dating: From day one, society tells young girls that they might be hurt by a stranger, a boyfriend, a date, or just a man in general.
Way back in the depths of her mind, she is slightly afraid of you.
It has nothing to do with you personally so don't take it that way.
Most women will have a slight sense of being in danger on the first few dates. Don't pressure your dates for any more information that they willing divulges about their phone number, address, work address, etc.
Don't try to get a woman to ride with you or go to places like a park or your apartment. Stay in public places.
The less pressure you apply, the sooner she will be comfortable with you.
As for you: Short of a woman having a weapon, you might feel like dating is not particularly dangerous to you physically. You are probably right.
Females:
The dating world can be dangerous to you, particularly if you are female. There are precautions you can take to make life safer.
1. Meet for the first (few) times in a public place.
2. Drive two cars.
3. Never leave together.
4. Tell a friend where you will be and what time you expect to return.
5. Keep your friend posted if you go somewhere else or decide to stay later than your announced return time.
6. Take a long time to give out your home address.
7. Be most careful when the chemistry or comfort level is highest. That is when many women throw caution to the wind. Don't do it.
Other suggestions:
- Schedule short dates at first.
- Get a cell phone and have it with you and handy...
- Get a second (unlisted) phone number to use for the first few dates. It can be the one you normally use for your computer or a cell phone.
- Have your cell phone or pager with you. If you are feeling uncomfortable, call a friend during a trip to restroom and ask them to call or page you with a reason to leave.
- Have change and at least $20 with you--preferably in a pocket or your bra. Just in case...
No matter how many precautions you take, dating will never be completely safe.
On the other hand NOT dating will make you forever and completely single.
