Here's a very interesting find in Peru. A tattooed woman, who appears to have been upper class, was entombed with war clubs, uncommon for a woman. There is speculation as to whether she was a female warrior or whether they were tokens of respect from the men.
This was actually a teenage girl who had been sacrifiec, although she would have been considered a woman at the time of the Moche culture.
If I remember my cultural studies right, there is also the possibility that she could have been a young shaman.
