The Gift of Change
acclaimed international author and lecturer
MARIANNE WILLIAMSON
I want to talk to you about how to dwell most powerfully in a world that is changing and moving around so dramatically today.
There are a couple of principles I would like to begin with:
l) The way to triumph in a world that is moving very fast, is to learn to slow down.
2) In order to have wide influence and effect, learn to 'go deep.'
Those two principles form a powerful attitudinal structure for rising above the turbulence that defines our time.
I want to give you a powerful gift tonight. It is an incantation -- a combination of words said in a way that, when you say them, have the power to break through illusions very swiftly.
These are the words: 'I STAND IN THE LIGHT OF HIGHEST POSSIBILITY.'
Whenever you remember to do it, at any moment, within any circumstance, simply say to yourself, 'I STAND IN THE LIGHT OF HIGHEST POSSIBILITY', and you will be lifted to a higher consciousness, magnetizing more harmonious energies into your life. Your experience will no longer be at the affect of the world's fear.
The greatest power God has given us to change the world (according to 'A Course in Miracles'), is our capacity to change our mind about the world. So you now have three mental changes to consider:
(1) The speed of the world is not about me: I dwell within a quiet, "underground and secure location,"
(2) in my heart; I will find my way to best serve the world by living most righteously within the spiritual realms; and
(3) with the incantation, I have a tool for automatically emerging from the dark into the light.
In 'The Gift of Change' I discuss quite a bit about my own life and process over the last few years. I point out that when I wrote 'A Return to Love', which I began writing in l988 and published in l992, the example I used of the ego's cruelty was that a man stood me up for a date!!!!!
I can hardly believe now, that there was ever a time when my idea of how difficult it can be to forgive, was having to forgive a man for standing me up for a date.
It seems we were all so innocent back then: no matter what happened, it was like we just spouted off a few metaphysical principles and expected everything to be okay by morning.
But things are so different now; a lot has changed. And now our mission is to change in a way that lifts us above the negative changes in the world, and invites into our lives the most positive ones.
Most of us know what we need to know by now: the issue is learning to actually LIVE, to EMBODY, the principles we already know.
We've all read the same spiritual books and listened to the same tapes; now we need to make the changes in our own lives that we want to see happen in the world. For me, as with everyone, that meant looking into some pretty dark corners.
Sometimes we push issues to the back of a drawer, as it were, knowing we should deal with them some day but procrastinating for as long as possible. But in the last few years, it's like we've been pushed into a corner.
It's like the universe has been saying, 'YOU WILL DEAL WITH THIS NOW!!!'
And why? Because the only way we're going to change the direction of the world away from the suicidal rampage that humanity seems to currently be involved in, is if each of us becomes the best person we are capable of being, and quickly.
That is our mission: to become WHO we are capable of being, that the world might become the paradise it is meant to be.
