Selling

Selling can be presented as your employment, as in selling to others in a retail environment; or it can be more personal, as in selling your possessions. Obviously, if your waking livelihood includes sales, dreams of selling will not be unusual. Unless you sell something particularly sentimental, most of the remarks here will not apply to you.

If you are employed in selling in dreamland, the emotional transaction at work is persuasion. The object you are trying to sell may be ridiculous or an actual consumer item. Depending on which it is, this may reflect whether or not you feel you will ever be persuasive. Your clientele also is important to this dream. Do they have something in common?

Do you see yourself as persuasive in waking life, or do you need to develop those skills more fully? If you are having a yard sale in your dream, you may be trying to creatively solve a financial problem or be feeling burdened by your possessions. If the yard sale has an element of emotional darkness, there may be financial anxiety involved that precipitated the need for downsizing the household. Dreams of this nature often try to show feelings of over extension. Heed them.

If you are selling items of great sentimental value, you may be seeing yourself as divesting from a particular relationship. This can happen at times of transition into adulthood or (desire for) marital separation. Many times, you do not actually perceive the emotional content of the items in your dream the way you would in waking. They are simply extras that you no longer wish to carry through life.

The act of selling in a dream, usually, is in the most general terms symbolic of some sort of emotional transaction that may be taking place in life.

                                                                        * * *

To dream that you are selling something, signifies changes and your feelings toward these changes. You may be experiencing difficulties in letting go or parting with something.

Siblings

Dreaming of siblings can be pretty ordinary stuff. If you have brothers and/or sisters in waking life, it would be expected that in dreams of your family, they would be present.

The important work of interpretation comes when either your sibling is missing, or if you suddenly acquire siblings in dreamland that do not ordinarily exist in the waking world.

If your real-life sibling is noticeably absent from a dream event, it may reflect your perceptions of your family at large. While either you or your sibling may be at odds with the family, a dream of an incomplete family is a picture of fracture in one or more of the possible relationships.

Sometimes, if you are experiencing particularly strong identification with a co-worker, they will show up in dreams as a newfound sibling. If the dream solution to the new sibling is a comfortable arrangement, this may herald a positive partnership. However, this event can be a little troubling.

In dreams of this nature, you may feel as though the new sibling is burrowing too far into your life and relationships.

                                                   * * *

To see your sibling in your dream, indicates unresolved issues with your sibling. Consider their actions in your dream and how it may be a reflection of your own self and your character.

To see someone else's sibling(s) in you dream, represents a quality or characteristic of that sibling that you need to incorporate and acknowledge within yourself.

Sibling Rivalry

To dream of sibling rivalry, suggests feelings of insecurity or doubt. You may feel less loved

In dreams of this nature, you may be anxious that circumstances are pressing too hard upon you and feel that you need an intercessor.

Amusement Parks and Carnivals

As settings for dreams, these are ambiguous places. It seems as though amusement parks often include elements that we consider to be the best and worst in life.

Many of us have enjoyed these places tremendously, but have also seen, smelled, or actually experienced the consequences of overdoing it: vomiting. Carnivals also include a very wonderful or frightening collection of personalities. These personalities may intimidate us at times. Sometimes the fright comes from a figure we love, such as a parent who doesn't really enjoy the carnival, but endures it for the children.

Eventually, the illusion of the idyllic family outing is transformed to an angry scene. Who are you with in the carnival and how do you experience the time there?

Finally, carnivals are full of out-of-control experiences. Being out of control can be ecstatic and wonderful. In these instances it may remind us of a sexual experience.

However, it can be terrifying to people with fairly rigid waking boundaries. Spinning and riding fast are two chaos images often associated with carnivals. Ferris wheels reflect times to remove oneself from the midway to a quieter perspective, unless one is afraid of heights. In what way are the rides metaphors for your life? In other words, how is your life like a rollercoaster, merry-go-round, or other central feature of the park?

Perhaps there is a ride pronouncedly missing that you want to experience but cannot-what is that a metaphor of and why do you desire it so?

                                                                        * * *

Amusement Park

To see or be in an amusement park in your dream, indicates that you need to set some time for leisure and more enjoyment in your life. Consider how everything in the park is an expression of some aspect of yourself.  Alternatively, you may be too easily distracted lately.

To dream that the amusement park is empty or abandoned, suggests that you need to open yourself to more fun and adventure

                                                * * *

Carnival

To dream that you are at the carnival, represents falsehoods and deception. If you observe freakish sights, then it denotes that there is a lack of harmony in your domestic life.  Much sorrow will arise in what were thought to be pleasant times.

To dream that you are on a carnival ride, suggests that you are going in circles. It may also symbolize cheap thrills.

To dream that you run away with the carnival, denotes that you will be involved in or closely connected to the entertainment field

Mountains

The mountains can be a place of majesty, danger, or ritual sacred land. You may just like being in the mountains and dream of them for that reason. They may make you feel good about nature, rebirth, and being alive.

Also, the mountains may be a something to cross alone-either by choice or because you find yourself there for some unclear reason. You will want to consider who said good-bye when the journey started, why you left, and what you expected to encounter in the mountains of your dreams.

The mountaintop experience has long been a idiomatic expression for the best life has to offer. Are you searching for or unable to attain a particular success in waking life, or do you feel you have ascended to that height in a particular area?

                                                                     * * *

To see mountains in your dream, signify many major obstacles and challenges that you have to overcome. If you are on top of the mountain, then it indicates that you have achieved and realized your goals. You have recognized your full potential. Alternatively, mountains denote a higher realm of consciousness, knowledge, and spiritual truth.

To dream that you are climbing a mountain, signifies your determination and ambition.

To dream that you fall off a mountain, suggests that you are in a hurry to succeed without thoroughly thinking about your path to success. Or that you are being forced upward toward a direction that you do not want to go or that you are not ready to proceed. Falling off a mountain, could also mean that you have a tendency to give up or escape from demanding situations

            Numbers

Numbers have many means of access into dreams. The most common is through objects. For example, sometimes you have stones in your hand. Another time, a stranger may give you stones. How many stones does the stranger give you?

Another means of access to numbers is through time. This time could be generalized in that it feels like about one hour. You may look at a digital watch and see an exact time, maybe even a nonsense time. It may be a particular date. In any case, the occurrence of numbers in dreams is an interesting study.

While numerology is a field of study in itself, there are general conclusions that can be drawn about dream numbers that may be helpful. First, you need to ascertain how the number got into your head in relationship to the dream.

Adding the digits together and discerning a difference between numbers, squares, and cubes is another way to handle numbers in dreams. Our minds are capable of pretty tricky internal math, given the chance. The problem with math and waking life is that able minds are talked out of successful math efforts due to common misconceptions and other illogical fears.

The study of numerology is a good complement to your dream interpretations, especially if numbers come up often.

                                                                     * * *

To see numbers in your dream, indicates some personal significance. They may represent a special date, address, age, etc.

                                              * * *

Numbers in dreams may sometimes not appear directly. Sometimes, numbers can be presented in the number of characters, number of objects, or an action that is repeated a certain number of times. Usually, you want to stick with the basic numbers (1 through 9) when trying to decipher the meaning to multiple digit numbers. For example, the number "1965" could mean the year 1965. But you can also add up the digits until you get one number. Thus 1965 --> 1+9+6+5 = 21 --> 2+1 = 3.  However, we have listed some additional "master" or "karmic" numbers which carry their own significance.

Old Man or Old Woman

These are archetypal figures of wisdom or spiritual power in dreams. For many people, the role of the father or mother has been lost in society through either divorce, workaholism, or some other emotional dysfunction. The psyche is prone to look for versions of this loss wherever it can create them, even out of the self.

Often times, these characters personify and validate an internal source of wisdom that has been written off by the psyche. It may be that you are confronted with a problem that escapes solution because of the most conscious worldview you ascribe to. However, another means of problem-solving that you view as old-fashioned may be effective. The wisdom figure in your dream is trying to teach you this truth.

Do you fear or disdain either your lineage or the prospects of your own aging?

Are you ambivalent about the purported wisdom of your elders concerning life choices you are now facing?

Are you looking for or missing some wisdom that would aid your life-quest?

                                                                 * * *

Old Man

To see an old man in your dream, represents wisdom or forgiveness. The old man may be a archetypal figure who is offering guidance to some daily problem.

Old Woman

To see an old woman in your dream, indicates your concerns about aging and growing old. Alternatively, the old woman may be an archetypal figure to symbolize feminine power.

Skeleton

The skeleton is a universal symbol of depletion, death, and secrets. Likewise, in dreams, it can appear in a variety of ways and reveal a variety of things. To discern an appropriate meaning requires examination of the context, and your reaction to the skeleton in the context it appeared.

The depletion scenario often occurs when skeletons are animated-their somewhat taunting presence will seem to exasperate you. Where are you when you find these animated skeletons? Combining the bones with the emotional image of the office, home, or a relative's home will indicate a facet of life where you feel as though someone or something is sucking you dry. Interestingly, you may not be afraid of these skeletons and possibly may even enjoy them, intuitively realizing that you are related to them and don't mind being their benefactor. (In spite of the fact that you do not want to end up like them!)

Death scenarios are contrasted to the above by the complete lack of animation. Often, there is more fear associated with the discovery of the bones as well.

Upon discovery, did you know whose bones they were and how they came to be there? These dream discoveries may offer insight into a person (or yourself) who is being symbolically killed by their circumstances. This death may be either emotional or physical.

Secrets, or skeletons in the closet, is the last scenario. Bones of this nature often appear in very inappropriate situations, but don't often generate much reaction among the dream characters. People know there are bones around, but they are not discussed in the dream.

 By assessing who is in the dream when the bones are found, insights can be drawn about the relationships and loose ends surrounding the person(s). If you are hiding something in waking life, the skeleton bones may appear in your dream in plain sight of some significant other in your life.

 The fact that that dream character doesn't seem to notice your skeletons is the handiwork of your unconscious protecting you. However, such a dream image may be a warning signal that you either need to be more careful about exposing a vice, or cut it out of your life completely.

                                                    * * *

To see a skeleton in your dream, represents something that is not fully developed. You may still in be the planning stages of some situation or project.  Alternatively, it may suggest that you need to get to the bottom of some matter. You need to stand up for yourself and your rights.

To see someone depicted as a skeleton, signifies that your relationship with them is long dead

                 Fox
               Go to fullsize image

The fox is a predator of great cunning and wiles. As such, to dream about the fox is to see oneself as either possessing or being victimized by such attributes. The focus on this symbol should be your sense of fear or kinship toward the fox. Whether you like or dislike the fox will determine the representation of the world and your relationships in it. If the fox is an adversary, the object that the fox is trying to take from you may be revealing.

A fox appearing in your dream should indicate that the qualities you most associate with a fox are somewhere at play in your life; either by you against someone else, or by someone else against you.

Is there someone else in the presence of the fox that shares its qualities? Is there another person in the dream who seems to be approaching you with caution?

                                                        * * *

To see a fox in your dream, represents insight, cleverness, cunningness and resourcefulness. Perhaps the dream is telling you that you need to exhibit more of these qualities in your waking life.  Or that you need to conceal your thoughts and remain silent about some situation.

Alternatively, it indicates a period of isolation or loneliness. You may take this time to ponder some issue or reflect upon your life. The dream could be a metaphor for someone who is a fox, as in a foxy lady.

Intimacy

Intimacy is one of the primary dream emotions. Many times our dreams include elements of intimacy with others whom we desire, or intimacy that escapes us. These dreams reflect our desires for connection to the others in our world. Intimacy with others is not always a synonym for sexual desire in this case. Rather, it can be the feeling of emotionally connecting with others, or, feeling unable to do so. The central interpretive questions are:

Do others respond to your overtures for intimacy? Do you seem unable to connect as deeply as you would like? Do you not feel the urge to respond to another's advance for intimacy?

If you dream of romantic intimacy without being able to fulfill it, there maybe unarticulated concerns about your self-esteem, since one's sexual attraction is important to one's sense of overall confidence.

Are you feeling as though people care about you? Or is your love, platonic or otherwise, unrequited? Insight into this dream may become more apparent as you consider whether the object of your desire is a parent figure, child figure, or romantic interest.

Medical Personnel

Living in the age of technology, we are much less dependent on spiritual figures and much more on technical professionals. Consequently, if you have discord in your psyche, it may present itself as a medical dream.

Dreaming of medical persons takes on three general types of presentation: you as patient, you as medical professional, and you receiving nonsensical care from medical persons.

As patient, you are wanting someone to fix where it hurts. In dreaming, this is often a feeling of powerlessness or irresponsibility regarding matters in your own life. The area of physical discomfort probably symbolizes an area of emotional discord. This can be as obtuse a connection as you can imagine.

If you are the attending doctor or nurse, you may not know your patient, but you see yourself as empowered with the knowledge and skill to bring about healing. If you know the patient, so much the better. The dream may reflect a care-giving or supportive role you fulfill. The presenting symptoms of the patient may allude to a facet of the relationship where you may need to give additional attention.

Receiving nonsense care from doctors or nurses frequently falls into the category of being unable to communicate. Either others are not understanding your needs or you feel unable to articulate your needs. You may be experiencing a very lop-sided relationship in which your needs are going virtually unmet.

A romantic liaison with medical personnel is another dream scenario that often occurs. In dreams of this nature, you may be wanting your romantic interest of waking life to be more attentive to your personal needs. Or you may just be one of those people who gets crushes on doctors and nurses and are experiencing some dreamland wish-fulfillment.

A doctor may also appear in your dream as the person who is trying to save the life of someone close to you. This character is likely a projection of yourself, in the sense that you want to be able to help someone in need.

Does the doctor seem to ignore you or is she unable to understand your questions?

Does the doctor assure you that everything will be OK?

                                                * * *

Doctor

To dream that you are seeing the doctor, indicates your need for emotional and spiritual healing. The dream could highlight medical concerns and it  may be time to go and get a physical check up.

To dream that you are a doctor, suggests that there is some problem that you need to patch up or some emotional wound that you need to bandage up.

To dream that you marry a doctor, forewarns that you are being deceived by someone or a situation.

                                            * * *

Nurse

To dream that you are a nurse, suggests that you need to show more compassion in a situation.

To see a nurse in your dream, denotes that you need to be taken care of. It may also suggest that you need to take time out for healing, either mentally, physically or spiritually.

                                                * * *

Patient

To dream that you are a patient, suggests that you are going through a healing process. Alternatively, this dream may be a pun for you to be more patient.

Zoo

Zoo dreams are often similar to museum dreams. The actual content of the zoo may be true to life, or it may contain some nonsense inhabitants such as co-workers, past romantic interests or relatives. You may also be a display, rather than an observer.

If others are on display, you may feel as though these people need to be confined or that they draw too much attention to themselves. If you are on display, you may feel that your life is somehow abnormal and on display for others to observe and critique.

Do you feel as though others keep you on-display or caged-in? Perhaps you are uncomfortable with a particular sense of notoriety you have attained.

Still, a dream that takes place in a zoo may have to do with ecological concerns, memories of childhood or a sense of adventure.

                                                    * * *

To dream that you are at a zoo, symbolizes loss of freedom and your abilities and talents go unnoticed. You or an aspect of your life feels caged in.

The zoo may also represent chaos and confusion as implied by the common phrase "this place is a zoo!" You may need to tidy up some situation in your life.

                                                  * * *

This symbolizes a loss of freedom

              Circles and Rings

Circles and rings are archetypal symbols. They can manifest themselves as circular rooms, the magic circles of shaman or other soothsayers, circus rings, or even circular driveways.

While circles are usually positive dream symbols, it is important to note the characters that accompany them and the emotions that surround them.

Did you experience the circular object yourself, or watch others doing so?

Was the circle broken or complete?

                                                               * * *

Circle

To see a circle in your dream, symbolizes perfection, completeness, immortality and/or wholeness.  On a less positive note,  it may also mean that you are going around in circles in a particular situation. Or the circle can indicate monotony and endless repetition.

To see circles within circles in your dream, indicate that you are well protected or that you are being overly guarded. You may need to let down your defenses. Alternatively, the dream may highlight the notion that you are going around in a vicious circle. You need to somehow find a way to break this circle.

To see an imperfect or incomplete circle in your dream, suggests that you will face many obstacles and setbacks toward achieving your goals. You need to work on your inner self and develop more knowledge. You will find that in the end, you will overcome these obstacles and find that your struggles are well worth it.

To see a circle with a cross, symbolizes earth. It may also serve as guidance toward the center and self-orientation.

                                                     * * *

Ring

To see a ring on your finger in your dream, signifies your commitment to a relationship or a successful new endeavor. It also indicates your loyalty to your ideals, responsibilities, and beliefs.

To see a broken ring in your dream, signifies an attack on your loyalty. It is indicative of disappointments and separation.

To dream that you lose a ring or someone has stolen your ring, suggests that you will lose something or someone near and dear to you.

To dream that you receive a ring, denotes that your suspicions and worries over you lover will end.  You will come to realize that he is true to his heart and will devote himself to your interest.

            Choking

Choking is a physical event in sleep for many people who suffer from sleep apnea. The tongue relaxes against the airway in deep sleep, actually stopping normal breathing. However, people who suffer from apnea do not dream of choking more than others.

Choking may be a symbolic revulsion dream or a deprivation dream. Are you choking on food or being forcibly strangled? The source of the food or the food itself may be a symbol for a revulsion you feel in waking life. If you are choking on a hot dog, Dr. Freud will see you momentarily. If someone is choking you, why? It may be that either you threaten them or they are depriving you of what you need to be effective in the home, workplace, or other setting.

                                                                      * * *

To dream that you are choking on an object, suggests that you may find some advice/remarks/situation hard to swallow or difficult to accept. Alternatively, you may feel that you are unable to completely express yourself in a situation. In particular, if you are choking on food, then it may be an expression of self-guilt and unnurtured feelings. If you are choking on smoke, then it indicates something you are unwilling to confront.

To dream that someone is choking you, indicates that you are suppressing your emotions or that you may have difficulties in expressing your fears, anger, or love.

Consider the phrase "being all choked up". Alternatively, you may feel that you are being prevented or restricted from freely expressing yourself.

To dream that you are choking someone, signifies feelings of aggression. You may also be trying to prevent something from being said or revealed.

Choking dreams are often a fearful experience and it is not uncommon for dreamers to awaken from them.

Lost Feeling

Many times, life feels like a journey. Not surprisingly, in dreamland, the journey becomes confused. This may be a simple reflection of a dream that did not make sense or a dream story that did not seem to go anywhere.

However, there are two ways to become lost, both of which say a lot about how we view ourselves in waking. First is being lost because you have choices and lack the ability to know which one to make. This may include dreams of driving a car, mall dreams, amusement park dreams, or other dreams where opportunities become uncertain. The other version of feeling lost is isolation, or a sense that motion is not leading to progress.

Which image of feeling lost most accurately conveys your awareness in the dream?

If you are lost due to choices, you may be at a point in life where you are unsure of what you want. This may include vocational, relationship, or personal values that seem up-for-grabs. It may also reflect an inability to see where a particular choice will take you if you make it.

If you are lost due to motion that does not lead to progress, you may be pretty ambivalent about whether your waking life is meaningful. Your ability to feel effective in life is being compromised in some area that needs a little examination.

                                                                     * * *

Lost

To dream that you are lost, suggests that you have lost your direction in life or that you have lost sight of your goals. You may be feeling worried and insecure about the path you are taking in life. Alternatively, you may be trying to adjust and get accustomed to a new situation in which the rules and conditions are ever changing.

To dream that someone else is lost, represents unresolved issues or feelings regarding the person that is lost. Consider also what aspect of that person you may have lost within your own self. Perhaps you need to recapture and re-acknowledge those aspects
