Spiritual Nutrition-
The Healing Properties of Food and Herbs

MARIE FAIRCHILD
First I'd like to say that chocolate is a good thing, especially if it is dark chocolate and un-sugared, so eat up!
Tonight I will share with you information on the special vibrational and healing properties of common herbs, plants and foods. The information I am sharing with you tonight will be geared toward the spiritual properties of these herbs and foods, rather than their physiological or nutritional qualities.
The following herbs, flowers and plants can be made into a tea or extract or burned to receive the vibrational/spiritual energy of the plant. If the plant is easily dried, drinking it as a tea will better transfer its spiritual properties, or used as an extract added to hot water Many herbal extracts are available in health food stores.
PEPPERMINT
Let's start with peppermint...
This is a very common plant that is widely used for its digestive, stomach soothing properties; But if too much is taken, its spiritual qualities decline.
When used appropriately, like a cup or two of tea once or twice a week, it can help to cleanse the entire physical body so that the vibrations of each chakra can draw energy from the higher self or soul.
The energy blocking soul lessons diminish, so these lessons flow easily through the being. Too much peppermint can create too high a vibrational flow causing the energy systems to slow down or shut down.
This is the reason why mint can negatively impact the energetics of homeopathic remedies. Peppermint is beneficial for those that have greater difficulties or suffer emotionally during Mercury retrogrades.
BASIL
Next we will talk about my favorite and yours Basil!
This is a common kitchen herb that stimulates the being aromatically to achieve more spiritual growth and spiritual awakening. It is useful in clearing emotional states such as anger. It helps the being to intuitively know their emotional selves better, and to make better choices. It can be eaten in food or drunk as tea.
CAYENNE
Then there is Cayenne.
This is also a great kitchen herb that speeds up all levels of action on the spiritual plane. It helps to focus and accelerate energy for healing. It opens the heart chakra. The karmic lesson of cayenne is to provoke choice.
Cayenne helps to remove blockages and obstacles in ones life in matters concerning the heart and love. As with peppermint above, there is a point of 'diminishing returns,' where the healing cycle tends to reverse itself.
When using cayenne for spiritual purposes, one should take small amounts. Be sure not to cook it, though. It will become an irritant to the digestive system. Instead sprinkle small amounts on food or in tea.
ONION
Now comes onion... We're still in the kitchen!
This plant's tendency is to open the heart chakra to release sadness. Hence the tear when one peels an onion. This is a common blockage for those working in almost any area of healing.
RED CLOVER
Red clover is a wonderful blood-cleansing herb. Its effects can last up to 3 weeks, but its spiritual effects can often be felt for up to 2 months. It is beneficial for those who have struggled over an emotional issue for some time because it helps to bring closure and a strong feeling of letting go. Energy is released from the throat chakra. Red clover helps to focus energy on the root chakra, thereby cleansing the emotional body.
LAVENDAR
This is my favorite herb...Lavender.
Lavender's powerful aroma and its violet ray, creates a vibration of higher states of spiritual ecstasy. A greater sense of gentleness takes place in men. In women there is a tendency towards greater strength.
There is more acceptances, and less fear of old age, especially in women, often resulting in greater physical stamina, health and strength. It helps one to reach deeper states of trance for channeling and for states of hypnosis.
I will move now to information on calming the heart, spirit and mind through the vibrational properties of certain foods.
In the Chinese 5 Element Theory, the heart rules over the tongue. The condition of the heart is reflected in the awareness of ones spoken word. By improving our awareness of our speech, we strengthen the heart.
Also by avoiding certain eating habits such as eating overly spicy or rich foods, avoiding refined sugar, coffee, alcohol... yes, coffee and alcohol (!!)...we bring more calmness to the Heart, Spirit and Mind. Avoid too late night eating and large evening meals.
These can all cause insomnia as well as a profusion of mental chatter during the day. It is beneficial to use the following foods to calm the yin of the heart so that the Spirit is held in the heart.
These foods are also beneficial to reduce stress... Eat brown rice and oats.
These foods gently but profoundly calm the mind. Use Blueberries, Mulberries and Lemons to calm the mind. Mulberry is the stronger of these foods.
Shizandra berries are a Chinese herb. They are used in tea to calm the spirit, and is often suggested for insomnia, to aid memory recall and concentration.
As I said, you can make a tea from the herb or take them in capsule form that you can purchase at a health food store.
Dill and Basil can be used in both food and tea for their balancing, calming effects.
Drink goat's milk and use clarified butter. Clarified butter is also known as ghee. These two foods help to nourish the spirit of the heart and calm the mind.
So there you have a little bit of information about these foods, herbs and plants. I hope you can take this information and use it to you your highest spiritual good.
