From what I have read on this Message Board. . . this posting will seem strange.  It doesn't come out of any book.  It's just a real like story about something that happened to my son.  My son is 19.  He is Menominee (through his father's people).  He has been estranged from his father and his father's people for the past 9 years.  Prior to the estrangement, my son was a very active dancer. . . he was dancing even before he knew how to walk. 

 

Three weeks ago my son found an eagle feather. . . only he didn't recognize it as an eagle feather.  This is extremely unusual, because my son would normally know better.  I had found it on a shelf and asked him. . . Where did you get the eagle feather?  He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about.  He said he had found some feathers, but not an eagle feather.  Then I showed him. . . He was so sorry and ashamed that he hadn't recognized the gift of the eagle feather.  It had been so long. . . he realized he was starting to loose his abiltiy to recognize the things that at one time where second nature to him.  He decided to dance at his tribes powwow which was fast approaching.  He hadn't danced in 9 years....,but we got the outfit together in a week.  He looked great.  He also ran into his grandparents who he hadn't seen in 9 years--now that was quite a reunion.....all because of an eagle feather my son found. . . and he didn't even know.  That feather gave him the greatest of all gifts.  This to me is the American Indian Spirit working its magic in the lives of everyday people. . ,. everyday special people. This is what the American Indian
Spirit is all about........My son did alot of healing . . . with HIS people and His grandparents. . . . it was  beautiful this to experience.
