[1952- ] Born in Akron, Ohio, she was the recipient of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. Among her many honors, she served as Poet Laureate of the U.S. and Consultant to the Library of Congress from 1993-1995. Poetry collections, short stories, a novel, essays, a play and a song cycle are all in her repertoire. Her new book of poems, released 1999 by W.W.
