[1913-1980] Born in NYC on Dec. 15, 1913, she was an iconoclastic poet, playwright, novelist, critic and translator light-years ahead of her time. Combining art, science, politics, civil rights and feminism, she mentored and influenced poets such as Alice Walker and Anne Sexton.
