Well I also feel that carbs can be dangerous in certain context but we should be distinguishing them like the fats: What sugars are more harmfull - glucose, fructose, lactose, simple or complex carbohydrates? I feel that the level of physical activity/metabolism/thyroid determine what amounts of carbs are safe to consume.
