Well documented, David. May they rest in peace, as I wish for all my family and friends now departed, Zy |

David I don't agree that this is a haloween poem. A poem of love, sentiment, sorrows, joys and memories, very well put together...Tony |

Halloween means All Hallows Eve the night before All Hallow's Day or All Saint's Day as we say now. This is a reminder of what Halloween really means and what it means to me. All Saints Day is the Christian Festival deliberately placed to coincide with the Celtic Pagan Festival of Samhain at the time when Celts believed that the forces of darkness exactly balanced the forces of light. At midnight on this day the the gateway to the Underworld opened allowing the dead to roam through the world. The ancient Celts did not fear the restless dead on this day, it was a time when the boundaries between worlds grew thin and fey spirits roamed freely. Ghosts they may be and ghosts that live only in our heads, but nothing to be frightened of. |
