Some of you may remember this one. It was the first poem I sent to the BBC. I thought I'd dig it out again for a challenge elsewhere. It took a lot of digging out, though. It was buried under a mountain of dust.
Cough! Splutter! LIGHTNING.
I watch the lightning as it streaks
Across the stormy sky.
Those brilliant flashes of electric blue
Light up the clouds in the sky.
Why is Mother Nature so angry?
I speak that thought out loud.
Have we done something to the Earth
That we are not allowed?
I hear the thunder as it rolls,
Cracking it's invisible whip.
Commanding the clouds to burst open
Like a skipper commanding his ship.
I see the rain as it pours
From the clouds in that stormy sky.
My heart fills with gloom as I think
Oh why, oh why, oh why?
