Lady Autumn

Shall I remember her this way?
With October’s brief morning sunlight
Brushing bright yellow highlights
Through the burnished copper of her hair?

For me, she wears her best and finest.
A farewell quickening blaze of colours
That fears nothing save but for myself.
She has never been more beautiful.

“You always knew that I must pass?
While her voice slides across the sun,
The fading sky of her knowing eyes
Locks with mine across the pale morning.

She winks and says, “Remember me this way.?BR>As she turns and twirls her cloak of leaves,
Each season smiling in her swirling dress.
Bright memories in her shining hair.

I remember her this way.
With October’s brief morning sunlight
Brushing bright yellow highlights
Through the burnished copper of her hair.

Merlin

Rather lovely sir - leaves my imagination with but a few highlights of it's own to be dazzled by - altogether luxuriant methinks

Best wishes

Thank you, Jen. I always tend to think of nature in terms of the feminine. So pleased you enjoyed.

Thanks, Rhumour. Autumn, I find, sparks the imagination like no other season.

Thanks, Maria. I wrote this personification last year, but have never had the opportunity to post it until now.

Merlin, I enjoy just about everything you write, but in this one...
you have surpassed ourself, this is a wonderfully characterised write.

I couldn't choose a favourite line, super work, Zy

What a gorgeous thing to say, Zy! Thank you so much. Id been going to post this sooner, but I thought I'd be better waiting 'till October wheeled around again. (It gave me a chance to "tweak" it a little, too!

This is beautiful, so wonderfully descriptive of the thoughts and emotions that seasons can bring with them

Thanks, Emma. There is a very strong duality in Autumn. An underlying sadness for all that is passing, but that is overpowered by memory and the beauty around us. I'm glad you liked this.
