DEER: Hunting deer works best with two hunters, one navigating and the other in the shooters spot up front. If the current is right the back navigator can just lay back and rutter his way down the river. I know a couple of guys that go through the river for a couple weeks in advance and bait in various spots along the banks. We have actually drifted right by deer that don't seem to be to spooky of our drifting object. Another advantage with a canoe is you don't have to drag the deer a mile to get it out, just throw it in the canoe.
DUCKS: This also works best with two hunters, but you have to be ready as you round each corner. Waterfowl dose'nt seem to stick around long once you're spotted. We generally approach the turns with a little more speed to get the jump on the unsuspecting ducks.
SQUIRRELS: This one you can do on your own if you want. I go as slow as I can watching tha above trees. Sometimes when I'm in a target rich environment, I'll pull to the side or drag an anchor to stop and go, kind of like still hunting. I usually do this after most of the leaves have fallen. I always have great success, because the squirrels constantly use the tree above to get across the river. Just be careful not to drop them in the river, sometimes there hard to find. If one hits the water get to it as fast as you can. Another idea is to get a ropeand tie one end to your paddle and the other end to the canoe, sometimes its easier and quietier to set the paddle in the water, when you need to grab your gun.
Give it a try, i'm sure you'll like it,
