Length: 1/2 to 2 Days

PhotoThe Middle Fork of the South Vermilion River was added to the National Wild and Scenic River System by the U.S. Interior Department in 1990 for the river's ecological, recreational, and historical characteristics. The Middle Fork has eroded through deep glacial deposits, exposing steep valley slopes and high bluffs. The valley features miles of Scenic River, high bluffs, sand bars, and forested habitat. Middle Fork Canoe Outfitter’s access allows the canoeist to float from the Middle Fork which passes through Kennekuk County Park, onto the Salt Fork just west of Danville, and finally into the South Vermilion River which flows through Forest Glen County Preserve approximately 34 miles downstream. Six different runs are offered of varying lengths (4-24 miles) to fit the canoeist's desires.

The South Branch of the Au Sable River flows thru the Huron National Forest. This stretch of the river has no white water, is crystal clear and one of Michigan's top trout streams. The pine and cedar lined river is abundant with wild life. If you choose to paddle on a week day you may not see another soul on the river. There are easy designated stops for lunch or just to stretch. The trip usually lasts 5-6 hours and our staff will pick you up at a predetermined time and return you to your vehicle.
