That Child WAS Me!

A child of five, growing up in a home,
A house of terror, where no love was shown.
Cowering in corners, trying to hide,
One so young, that doesn't know pride.
Forced to eat at every meal,
No way out, or make a deal.
Do as your told, or get the strap,
A home where affection, wasn't on tap!
This child of five, cries herself to sleep,
Almost everynight, of every week.
Always did wrong, never did right,
Those childhood years, spent living in fright!
I know that horror, I know that pain,
Throughout all those years, nothing to gain.
Now as an Adult, that child can be free,
Can say how it was, 'cause that child WAS me!.
