Cookies are files that Web sites place on visitors' computers that let those sites identify, authenticate and store information about individuals. Most Web surfers let their browsers accept cookies so they can use features such as shopping carts, which depend on the data files. These files(or cookies) slow down your computer. By cleaning your cache, you delete these unneeded files which slow your computer speed down.
Clearing your CACHE :
If your system seems slow, or you're having difficulty accessing Communities, it's a good idea to clear your cache.
If you're using MS Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher), go to the TOOLS tab on the Explorer bar. Select INTERNET OPTIONS. When the window opens, make sure that the GENERAL tab is the one showing; then click on SETTINGS in the Temporary Internet Files section. Then click on VIEW FILES. It will open in a new window. Go to the EDIT tab on the Explorer bar, choose click ALL (they'll highlight). Then go to the FILE tab, click on DELETE, and your CACHE is now empty.
(If it's been a while since you've done this, it may take a few minutes for this file to empty.)
All that you've done is remove all temporary files and cookies from your system. After a lot of browsing, if this is not emptied regularly, it can really begin to bog your system down. You'll do NO damage. TIP--- It's a good idea to do this at least daily if you surf a lot. I do it several times a day sometimes.
REMINDER: When you re-enter Communities, you'll need to download the UPLOAD PHOTO control as well as the CHAT CONTROL again. This is a good idea anyway. You're always assured of having a fresh set of controls this way.
