Hi ya Roomies !!!  Gator here..  I've been running Windows XP Pro for several weeks now...  and it's soooo KEWLLL !! Word of advice....  XP loves chewing up memory and diskspace...  The faster the processor the better...  Memory is a real biggy...  128mb is what I would say the minimum, 256+mb is ideal...

Please go to the following link, download the advisor...  let it decide for ya...  it's a must for a tool to examine your machine.. !!

If ya have anyquestions about XP,,, catch me in the room (40s5)...  i'll be glad to help... !!  :)

Good point gator .. but to all or anyone who wants to upgrade to Xp , as a qualified IT technician I can tell you the benifits are minimal if you already have a system that works .. too many timesin my job I am called out to re install win me or 98se or 2000 , because of the major conflict XP has with many drivers unless you are sure your sytem has drivers that XP reckonises avoid XP at all costs , amny sound cards will not owrk with XP , nor will some GL video cards , hard drive compatibilty (! ) true ... have one system down nown Because XP wont reconise the Hitachi hard drive .. not even though its set up as Slave , Cam problems are also common ... so I hope this is a sort of guide ..if you feel you are prepared to hunt for drivers etc , by all means XP is ok ... but by no means a required upgrade ...
                                                   thanks all

you are both right, xp is kool, but eats up hd and memory fast. and it wont work with all programs and drivers and cams and so forth. i have both 98se and xp pro on my machine, (two hard drives) since the mainboard and bios allow for it it works pretty good, i find my self using 98 only rarely for those few programs and things that wont work on xp. do NOT try to put xp on an older puter made for say 98 or even 95, you will be wasting your time. rarely will it work right. the older chips are too slow for it to work like it should if at all. my board and chip were made for xp so it works fine. laters
