This picture is causing a controversy in Providence, Rhode Island. This is high school senior Patrick Agin. He is a member of a society that researches and recreates medieval history. He wanted this photo to be his senior portrait. Before you ask, the high school allows students to be in costumes in their senior portrait as long as it does not violate the dress code. The costume does not, but the sword does. The school board has a strict "No Tolerance" policy when it comes to weapons. But the ACLU says the policy is no so strict when it comes to theatrical performances. Plus, the school's mascot is a "Patriot". The character of the patriot carries a rifle. The ACLU states that the mascot carries a weapon but the students can not. The school board has told the mother of Patrick Agin that she can put the photo in the advertising section of the yearbook, but she would have to pay to put it in.
Is this fair? Who is right? Who is wrong? What do you think?

I think there's entirely too much "political correctness" in the world today.  He should be allowed to have the sword in his photo if that's what he wants.

Absolutely let him have the sword in the pic.then it can be kept in the principle's office until the boy is ready to leave school grounds. What's the harm in that ? What's up with telling the mother she could "buy" a page in the advertisement section and have the picture there.. That sounds like bibery or blackmail. Always comes down to the almighty dollar! Now to be caught "sneaking" in a weapon that could be hidden..thats different. I heard on the Early Show a few mornings ago..that because of an insident a four year old boy...thats 4years old people  was going to be suspended and charged with sexual harrassment.....Thanks goodness someone stepped in and the charge was changed to unrulely behavior.! That has to be the most rediculous thing I've ever heard..he's 4 years old for goodness sake. If the politicans and lawmakers hadn't let the bleeding heart liberals talk them into taking God out of our children's school ie: prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance not to mention hindering the teacher's ability to disipline I dare say there may never have been a Colombine!
JMOP!
