Should anyone who has committed serious crimes and writes a book, be entitled to the proceeds of that book?

What are your thoughts?

When I first looked at this I thought to myself, that's a no brainer....The answer is NO....But, as with other questions in life, if I'm given the opportunity to think about something, rather than just react...I try to give it fair thought..

If someone is convicted of a serious crime...They should not profit from their crime while incarcerated...BUT...(And I know people have trouble with this one.  I don't)....I believe once you have done your time, you have paid your debt to society...

Therefore, when you are released, and your probation period is over.. you should have every right to live your life the way you see fit...If that means writing a book, then so be it..

Look at all the high powered people that have written books...Presidents, senators...etc, etc...I think most of them are crooks...Only difference is, they haven't been convicted..;)

I must admit I am the first to watch or read the book or movie from a true story no matter what it is

but I do wonder about the victims of the families in this  - I dont think I would be too happy knowing that person is making money out of something like that

but once he has done his jail term - then what?

I think if they are in jail its NO

once they are out of jail - MAYBE - lol
Maybe they should get permission from the victim's family first - see how remorse they are

this was interesting

(this reflection on the effects of imprisonment was made by US District Court Judge Dennis Challeen, as quoted in the New Zealand journal Stimulus, August 1994)

We want them to have self worth, so we destroy their self worth.

We want them to be responsible, so we take away all responsibilities.

We want them to be part of our community, so we isolate them from our community.

We want them to be positive and constructive, so we degrade them and make them useless.

We want them to be non-violent, so we put them where there is violence all around them.

We want them to be kind and loving people, so we subject them to hatred and cruelty.

We want them to quit being the tough guy, so we put them where the tough guy is respected.

We want them to quit hanging around with losers, so we put all the losers under one roof.

We want them to quit exploiting us, so we put them where they exploit each other.

We want them to take control of their own lives, own their own problems and quit being parasites - so we make them totally dependent on us
