A few years back, a dear friend of mine went through a very traumatic ordeal involving her then husband.  They had separated and he managed to convince their son that it was OK for him to wait with him one afternoon until his mother came home from work.  After she came home, he started to leave and went to get in his vehicle.  He came back into the home with a gun and threatened my friend with the gun.  Her son saw the fight, and eventually he left the house, but not before the son saw his dad holding the gun to his mother's head and her literally fighting for her life to get the pistol away.

The case ended up in court and he served a few days in jail, my friend and her son moved to a neighboring community and she attempted couselling for the son to help him deal with all he saw and what it had done to him.  For the last few years, she has struggled to make a life for the 2 of them as she has tried to keep her son on the right path.  He is 15, has been in trouble with the law for drug use, theft and numerous other offenses.  She has begged everyone to help her find help for her son.  About 4 weeks ago, he had gotten into his latest troubles and Mom and son had an argument.  He hid alot from her and what she discovered was that he had been mutilating himself.  She took him to the hospital with a severe infection from where he had been cutting himself and as she described it to me, threw the MOTHER of all tantrums until she had someone's attention.  They sent the child, after treatment, to a mental health facility where he was diagnosed with Post Tramatic Stress Disorder (from the episode with his father), Substance Abuse and also diagnosed his as Bipolar.  He is now on medication, in a theraputic foster home, after spending 3 weeks in the mental health facility, and awaiting a place in a wilderness camp where he will spend 9 months.

We all know the system sucks when a child has to fall so far before anyone will listen to a Mother's pleas for help for her child.  As in this case, her pleas went unheard until it could have completely destroyed a child.  All I am asking is for prayers that they have not let this child fall so far that he cannot be helped.  I have known this child since he was 5.  My daughter and he have grown up together and this breaks my heart that my friend has fought so hard to save him without anyone paying attention to her pleas.  Please pray for strength for them both as they have a very challenging road ahead of them.

My prayers are with your friend at this time as well as  with her son. I really pray that things will turn out for the best and that it isn't to late to help her son. Yes it's a sad day when our own government system fails the children of the future. My heart goes out to all of you.

Will be praying for your friend & her son...

It's indeed a shame your friend's pleas went unanswered for so long; however, fortunately it wasn't too late. I pray this program her son is in will turn his life around...

Please keep us posted...
