This past weekend I did the West Springfield Arts Festival for the first time (2 day show- $135 booth fee). It was the first show I've done where they judge your work. On saturday each crafter was given a card at registration to place on one piece they wanted the judges to take a look at in particular and they would also look at your other work as well to get an overall opinion of your work. I set my "Fireman's Guardian Angel" up front of my booth in an easel and placed my card on that piece. I brought my saw on saturday and demo'ed all day. About noonish, one of the judges came by my booth and stood there and read the article I had published in Scroll Saw Workshop on the Fireman's Guardian Angel. She watched me doing my sawing and asked me all kinds of questins. She seemed very interested in my work and thanked me for demonstrating it to the crowds. A little bit later, 2 more judges came by. The gentleman didn't spend much time looking at the fireman but walked inside my booth and looked at my other items while the woman studied the fireman. About 3:30 that afternoon, the President of the West Springfield Parks and Rec Dept (who sponsored the Arts Festival) came by and presented me with a first place blue ribbon in the Professional Crafts category along with a check for $125. I was so excited! He told me the judges found my work to be professional, unique and refreshing. Then on Sunday, the local paper came by and took a picture of me with my winning entry. Can't wait to see the article. I did not sell much at this show but made my booth fee back plus a few bucks and of course the winning check and ribbon made it worthwhile. Linster |

Linster, That's great, very well deserved. I have a post in 'General' about your pattern that you may have missed, its moved down aways. The volunteer firemen that I gave a copy to really appreciated it, especially after I told them why you designed it. Thanks again for putting your pattern out there, I'm not sure anything else would have worked as well for a 'thank you' to them. Christine |

Thank you all for the Congrats. It really is an honor to have your work recognized in an event such as this. That blue ribbon will reside on the Fireman portrait until it it sold and then hang elsewhere in my tent along with the collection of articles I have obtained. It's time that scroll work gets the recognition it deserves!
The article will be coming out in thursday's paper so my friend is going to go by the office and pick up several copies for me. I'll scan and post it as soon as I can.
Thanks again!
