I used a Dewalt 788 for a scroll saw demo a couple weeks ago and noticed a problem. The length between upper and lower blade holder was too long. You have to catch the blades on the very tip. These are standard blade that would normally have 1/4" to 1/2" sticking out. There were Dewalt reps on site and they had no clue how to adjust it. Is there an adjustment that will bring the blade holders closer?

Rob,
I found that there is a little 'slop' in the lower arm where it attaces to the main motor case. By loosening the two bolts that attach it to the case you can move it up or down slightly thereby adusting the position of the lower arm to either lengthen or shorten the distance between the blade holders. Due to the length of the arm a very small adjustment at that end translates to a much larger adjustment at the blade holder end.

Tom, the saw is a new one at a tool store where our wood working club meets each Saturday. I will try to go there during the week and adjust it. I will let you know if it works.

Tom, thanks for the info about the 788 DeWalt. I bought one this year & I think that is a problem too. I don't have a real problem with it, but, I do notice it.  Thanks            Perk

I've never checked my DeWalt, but before I purchased it I had purchased a Delta with that problem.  There are a couple of bolts at the "back" end of the saw that allow you to modify the distance between the upper and lower arms.  You misght want to check Ole Yeller for that.  When I go back to the shop in the morning, I'll check mine

This problem lies with the 788, type 2 saw made overseas.  The older models made in Canada were okay, now they are made in Taiwan. I bought a Dewalt with the same distance problem you speak of, but I couldn't even clamp down the blade after adjustment.  I took it to the Dewalt service problem and they were aware of the Spec problem and replaced my saw when they couldn't fix it.
