I have been cutting out some puzzles recently and noticed right off that my table was a bit out of square.  I got my model builders square and trued it up, but it wont stay vertical.  I have strong fingers, in my younger years my nickname was, "Vice Grip Fingers", but no matter how much pressure I put on it it still moves enough to make the puzzles hard to put together.  Short of getting out a pipe wrench, I don't know what to do.  I cleaned out the sliding area, and tightened the bolt in the back, but it still wanders out of square.  Anyone else have this problem, and what can I do?
Randy

Hi Randy.

Have you tried to figure out what is slidingout of range? Maybe the bot is not making the pressure to the other part correctly!
Sometimes it is good to show what you mean by a picture. Once I did so and I got the help I needed.

Hi Randy,

RBI's of recent vintage come with a long metal rod that attaches to the top of the stand and extend vertically to contact the bottom outside edge of the table to prevent this.  Apparently this must be a chronic problem with the saws and the rod idea is an attempt to prevent shifting.  You might be able to try the same thing with a length of 1/4" all thread if there is a hole available in the top of the stand that is in a convenient location.

My first RBI had the same problem occasionally, and I just tried to be careful not to put too much pressure on the table.  My new one has the rod thing and I don't have a problem with it.

Good luck,
Bruce

Thanks for the reply, I thought that maybe I was not the only one experiencing this problem.  I will look and see If I have something to fix it with.
I don't have a digital camera, so when I tried to get someone to hold the scrollsaw over the scanner, it just didn't work well.

I noticed that my RBI table was solid, until I tightened the table in its position.  It was somehow lifting itself off its glide, and rocking a bit.  I took the table all the way off and noticed some greasy-woody substance, reminded me of grease you use to grease your car, but wood like, not black.  The kind that has been hanging around your ball joints for a few years.  I got out my xylene(Goof Off with out the perfume), and cleaned it good.  Now it works much better.  I did 5 animal puzzles today and did not need to reset it one time.  I think all my saw needed was a good dose of xylene.
