If money is tight, and you can live with an excellent
single shot, go for an N.E.F/H&R .17 Cal., they are very accurate and
inexpensive. I own 4 of them, (4 extra barrels, that is, with one action in
which the barrels are interchangeable in less than a minute), and couldn't be
happier with them! They come tapped for a scope, and the extra, new barrels are
only about $80. They are available in a numerous different calibers, up to and
including .45-70! Can't go wrong with them!

Hey Firefighter, I bought a marlin in the .17 hmr almost a year ago now and I'm thrilled with how well it shoots. It has a stainless, bull, 20" barrel and a coffe stock. The set up cost me about $285. This gun loves the Hornady ammo. It wont shoot CCI or Remy worth a darn. It will put the hornady into a 5 shot ragged hole at 50yds and under an inch easily on a calm day. These guns are a blast for small game such as prarie dogs and squirrels, I havent tried it on a coyote yet and doubt I will. It doesnt have a great deal of nock down power but is addictive to shoot. Good shooting Trescole |
