Folks.
Trying to keep my mind off this election.
What is your preference in an AR rifle? If you had to have only one, would you take a 5.56 or a .308? Your opinions would be greatly apppriciated,

thanks Divit

The AR-15 as I knew it (M-16A1) was an OK rifle, but I preferred the heavier M-14.

I think its what you grew up on.  I like the 5.56 A2, ammo and M14 are heavy, not good for a road march, keep a 7.62 as a assigned postion in the squad/team.  I'm thinking we need up close weapons where I live.

If I could only have one AR-15 in 5.56 I would choose the most relaible: Colt LE 6920

There are several good ones out there but if I could only have one that would be my choice. Having had Armalite, Bushmaster, and others, the Colt 6920 is the one I rely upon when I know I'll be putting thousands of rounds down range and cannot deal with malfunctions of less than top quality parts.

You will most likely need to look/purchase online as they are rarely found on the shelf
in retail stores. Traditionally in the M4 platform Colt markets to the LE and military. Before the election yesterday they could still be found in the  $1100.-$1300. range.

I watched the price of 30rnd AR and pre-Clinton normal capacity GLOCK magazines rise before my eyes today. Demand is heavy, supply is becoming evermore short, and retailers are taking advantage of the rush before Obama destroys the firearms Industry altogether.

Buy as much ammo as you can afford. Obama's 500% tax hike on firearms excise and ammunition is just around the corner.

Stay safe out there.

<RTE_TEXT>Hi Divit,
I would preferr the .308 simply because the round has way more energy at longer ranges than a piddly 5.56 round.
I have an AR 10 and I love it although it tends to be a bit hard on ammo</RTE_TEXT>

I've already got a few .308 rifles, including a Russian Saiga carbine.  I do plan on building an AR in the near furture though.  I'm going with a kit from Model 1 Sales, CAR, heavy fluted barrel, A2 upper, free float hand guard, and an ACE ARFX stock.

If yer getting an AR, get the AR 15.

Customizable like you won't believe. In addition, you can get a .50 BMG upper (like I do!) for the AR 15. No FFL needed!

Can do that for the AR10

Good choice with the Stag Arms, and thanks for supporting Connecticut industry.  I feel that Stag is the best bang for the buck, they have actually made parts for others like Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, Rock River Arms, etc.
If money were no object, and you wanted the absolute closest thing to a military M4, I would agree with gunsnbowgal and get a Colt 6920.  But it depends on what you want it for; for a house gun I have an AR carbine and shoot heavy bullets out of a slow twist barrel.  For Service Rifle competition/accuracy the Bushmaster CMP rifle can't be beat for the price.
Let us know how you like your Stag, you're lucky you got your hands on one, all AR-type rifles and 30 round mags are drying up (post-election panic buying).

I realize that everybody and their brother is in the AR15 game now but I came across a couple of  X-brands that I've never heard of.  Their prices are real cheap and they claim to be 100% mil-spec.
Anyway, what can anyone out there tell me about Delton and Superior Arms?
Thanks.

Have done a lot of reading and looking the last couple months and never ran into Delton, Superior rings a bell but can't find it anywhere.
By the way shot that Stag on Sunday, was not disapointed.

Good to hear.  Stag make a perfectly fine, AR15 battle rifle.
