| powderburn (Original Message) | Sent: 1/12/2003 2:38 PM | | I have a 22-250 VLS that loves the 50gr balistic tip.The load is 36.5gr of Varget in front of a federal gold match primer. The bullet is seated within .005 of the lands and group size is very often 3/4in at 300yds.This load is well below max acording to the manuals I use but should still be aproached with caution. | First Previous 2-7 of 7 Next Last | Reply
| | | My 22-250also likes the 40gr balistic tip bullets with a charge of 38.5gr of varget.Fedreal primers are also the choice and this load is below max listed charge weight but still work up with caution. This load has produced high velocities and 1 1/2in groups at 300yds. | | Reply
| | | From: varmit | Sent: 1/12/2003 7:44 PM | | 35.5 gr. of Varget, WLR primer, 55 gr Sierra Blitzking, Winchester cases, seated .010 off, will produce 3550 fps, I've had several 1.5" groups at 400 but most are around 2". This should be well below max. don't like the bullet on coyotes. I'm working on a Sierra 60 gr H.P. load right now and it's looking like it will come together. So far 34.2 gr H-4895, WLR primers, Winchester cases, seated .005 off, is pushing it 3507 - 3523 fps, and is .434 at 100 yds. Varget would not give the velocity I was looking for. This is getting to the max in my rifle. I'll keep you posted. 36.0 gr of IMR4064 WLR primers, 52gr Hornady HPBT, Winchester cases, seated .005 of came out around 3650 fps. this was my pet load with factory barrel and twist, great on fur. TAKE IT SLOW GUYS WE CAN REPLACE THE GUNS, BUT NOT THE EYES!!! | | Reply

Barnes VLC this was seated .005 off the lands i will try it in the new 22-250 but seat it .010 off the lands. VEL. was 4106 with a standerd dev. of 17.77 fps. i used CCI 200 large rifle primers . havent hit anything but paper imagine they would blow up on contact with a yote. pds would be dust!! this load was developed by a crazy man so have your mother inlaw shoot it first!!!!! zapper | | Reply

| Powderburn, a 3/4 inch group @ 300 yds is hard to beat. That's some shooting for such a windy bullet. I use Sierra's 55gr. HP Match sitting on top of RL-15, Fed primer. It's not as hot as I can push it. I have the OAL recorded but it will differ in different rifles, just off the lans. The best group I've ever shot @ 100yds I did with this load. It was one very small hole. The rifle is a Rem 700 VS with a Luepold 6.5 x 20. Norma brass and Redding Competition dies. Love the 22/250. It's by second one, I wore out my first. RL-15 works great in my 308 also. | |
