I have a load of nickle plated 44 special brass and would like to use the Win 110 gr. Silvertip HP’s. I found a recipe for 2400 powder (for 110's). But would like to try Blue Dot and W231. Anyone have info on these powders for a 44 spec, 110gr bullet? |

Howie, we're in Florida right now, and I don't have my
better loading manuals here, but I'll get back to you when we )God willing), get
back up to N.Y., around Sep't. 10th. I saw some good .44 Spl. loads, in the
meantime, you might want to try one of the Reloader's Forums on the
Net.
Don't know if you've run into it, but the
Nickel Plated cases seem to have a tendency to split, I had 2 of them crack in a
new box of Factory Remington .45 Colt, with N.P. cases.
I'll take a look at my manuals here, to see
if I have any info for #2400 and #231, in .44 Spl.
Cheers,

Hello from Canada Howie; When I still had fire-arms (before the new legislation came into effect here), I had a 629 Smith, 8 3/8 in bbl, with which I regularly used .44 Special ammo. One of the best, most managable loads I used was with assorted brass (I've never used nickel plated, so can't advise you there), 215 gr hp's over top of a case full of Hogdon's H110. I don't know what kind of revolver you are using, but these loads were the best I've used IN THAT REVOLVER. You'd have to look up the EXACT recipe in one of Hogdon's loading manuals as I don't have one in front of me, but it would be well worth it if your gun is strong enough. It was a very low pressure load if I remember correctly. I also used H110 in .44 Special w/240 gr LSWC (bullet loaded BACKWARDS) for bowling pin shooting (when shooting was still an "acceptable" sport) and the bullets "grabbed" the pin off the table every time. Hope this is some help. Keep the faith. |

Hey, Howie, Sorry to take so long getting back to you, but we've been busier than a blind faggot at a Weinie Roast, repairing LAST year's hurricane damage! Anyway, the only load books I have here in Fla. are Lee's Ist Edition, and the (free) load books put out by Winchester, Hodgdon's freebee, and Alliant's freebee. The Winchester book doesn't show a #231 load for the 210 Gr. Wi.n. STHP, only 240 Gr. Lead and 245 Gr. Lead. Lee's book shows only H4227, HS6, and HP 38 IN 210 Gr. Jacketed. Alliant shows no loads for 210 Gr. Jacketed. Hodgdon " " " " " " " What you may want to do is check the www.LoadYourOwn.com website, might be able to come up with some loads there. Sorry I can't be of more help, right now! Cheers, Fred(Honcho) |
