Isis - Mistress Of Magick

She was always known as Isis, and as patron of Women, Mothers, Children, Magick, Medicine and the Ritual of Life she was revered in all of Egypt, and later in Greece, Rome and even in India.

Her temples where found everywhere and shrines to her existed in just about every home, Isis is still widely worshipped to this day, though originally a stellar goddess her worship was later associated with the Moon and thus she is sometimes worshipped as a Moon Goddess.

Isis was pictured as a beautiful woman in magnificent clothing and sometimes with a sun disk on her head, where as many of the ancient Deities had various forms and variants.

Isis was always depicted more or less the same and always known as Isis. This is a reflection of her importance and antiquity.

It is probably that Isis is the oldest of the deities found in Egypt, and definitely the oldest to have survived in the same form.

Where as most of the other deities were worshipped widely throughout Egypt, Isis was worshipped by just about everyone in ancient Egypt as the Great Protector, giving guidance to her followers and seeking peace for all of the world.

This makes her the major Goddess of the Egyptian Pantheon.

She was one of the more powerful deities too, probably more powerful that the mighty Ra, after all it was she who tricked Ra into revealing his secret name taking all his power, but not even this causes her to be portrayed as anything but loving, compassionate and merciful.

Isis encompasses all the quality of womanhood.

Isis was the wife and sister to Osiris, and his female counterpart, equal and as powerful.

As the daughter of Nut and Geb, and sister to Set and Nephthys she played an important part in the pantheon.

In the Legend of Osiris she travel the world to find all the pieces of his body and brings him back to life with a bit of help from Thoth.

Her associations with Thoth goes beyond this legend too, the two of them teach man the secrets of magick, medicine and farming.
