When I was a teen, I loved reading a book called The Mural Master. I read it 3 different times at different stages in my life...the last being in my 20's. I absolutely loved that book and I recommend it to anyone who has kids who are capable of reading on a teen level, and to those who love the thought of being able to walk into pictures and live the life that is represented and have many an adventure.
I've also read many classics, and one of my absolute favorites is The Picture of Dorian Gray. A self centered boy/man discovers a pic he has painted of himself is what is aging, and not his own body. He notices scratches and scars in the pic as he incurs them in life, as well as how he would look if he were to actually grow old. It's a great story and he learns a hard lesson in the end.
I am a romanticist at heart (hope I spelled that right) and I could read Romeo and Juliet over and over. In high school I had to read Wuthering Heights and I never forgot it and read it again later on. Talk about a romantic novel...that one is great.
The movie Jurassic Park had a couple sequel's to it, but the very last movie..where they went back to the island to find dino's still breeding and the divorced parent's of the plane crash boy were searching for him...I loved that book. I read it first then went to the movies to see it, and of course, the book is much better! But I loved the movie too!
And for those of you with little ones like myself...a funny funny story that rhymes and is definately one the kids and you can relate to: The Monster Bed. I loaned it out from the library and liked it so much I went and bought it. It's absolutely delightful and is not very long at all. My 4 yr old sits throught it every time as does my 7 yr old. It's about a monster mom putting her monster son to bed, and he is afraid he might have a 'human' under his bed! It's very enjoyable!
My daughter also loves the Junie B. Jones series of books by Barbara Park. Right now she is reading Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus and loves it. She tells me stories of her own school bus rides she had last year. The book is told from the little girls' point of view and she's about 5-ish or 6, so expect to read as a little girl might talk!
Have fun! DeniseNH
