I call it Veggie Egg Scramble and you can find the recipe on the sidebar under ( oddly enough) What's In Your Bird's Bowl?

Ahhhh, I fed mine before I saw this but they had a colourful evening meal......... with more poms as the price had gone down to 59 cents each.....
They had pasta, chef salad veggies (no ham for them)  and frozen veggies (Italian style I believe the package was) brown rice, plums, poms, cheese bread sticks and a Texas fry each.......
Then for overnight the new pellet that came today. this is supposed to be 60% of their diet and hopefully the little buggers will eat them......
I gave all of them a bowl of apple juice to dunk the new pellet just incase the water didn't suit them...........      Too2

Pomegranates for 59 cents?  Around here they're $2.50 each.    I kid you not.......

This meal went over big here, and it's a sneaky way to put in a vegatable they don't care for but need. I peeked into the room after I put their bowls in their cages and everyone was digging in, and had their little buns in the air! So it went over well. So my score?
10 buns up!

Right now my Amazon is eating some bean sprouts that I have sprouted myself along with some sprouted broccoli seeds.

Poms are $1.50 each here on sale... when I can find them, which isn't often.

The "scramble" my flock likes the most is this:
2 cups of  frozen diced southern style hash browns
2 cups of frozen whole kernal corn
2 cups of frozen peas w/diced carrots
8-12 eggs scrambled with microwaved, well crushed shells
just a touch of olive oil to keep it from sticking.
lightly saute the hash browns & veggies til heated through, add eggs & shell - scramble

* note: you could use 4 c. of any mixed veggies but my tiels won't usually eat  green or lima beans and aren't crazy about peppers.

Erika I like that recipe and had never thought about using hash browns...
That's an awful lot of eggs! is it not? I never use the egg shells either, that's just me..
I don't make anything that can be left overs....... makes it twice as hard on myself but I just don't do left overs or re-heats.....
The thing that I add to every dish or almost every dish is Cayenne Pepper..... Mine like the hot taste and the benefits of the Cayenne are enormous........Too2

Erica, that does sound good. Do you freeze it in packets for later? I would add crushed red pepper flakes from the spices department. The beta carotene count is enormous. My birds eat everything better when I sprinkle it over their veggie-egg mixes. Don't kiss birds after they eat red pepper!!!
For birds that don't love HOT, maybe paprika? I need to check its contents.

Too2, have you ever compared the Vit A between cayenne and crushed red peppers? Or could they be the same thing in different grinds? I gotta go do that.

Cayenne has 41,610 IU Vitamin A per 100 grams.

Fresh red pepper has 21,000 IU per 100 grams

Dried red pepper flakes has 16,000 IU per 100 grams.

I am switching to cayenne as soon as I use my 3 extra bottles of flaked red pepper. Or maybe just sprinkle more of the flakes on their food. Flakes don't make me sneeze.

They are the same pepper, cayenne being ground and flakes being---well, flaky.

Annie I use both but the pepper I sprinkle on almost everything since they like the taste or act as if they do I can get them to try new things as long as there is a red haze!! lying on top..
I still have peppers growing and the stack is loaded with them. I grow red and three different levels of hot. (All are too hot for me). The plants are even taller than myself, probably considered a dwarf plant maybe?......kidding!  I don't bother to grow more than one green and yellow as even then there's more than enough for salads and cooking needs.  Too2

I think that explains why your birds' coloring is so pretty. The red haze on food, I mean. That stuff brightens them so much.
Mine really do eat better when the flakes are pretty heavy on top. Maxi gets the flakes stuck to her beak and I have to scrape them off. She tries, but can't get all of it wiped off.

What a novel idea, Annie!!! Flaky flakes!!

I'm going to try sprinkling ceyenne on my guys stuff and see what they think. Basil in particular really likes hot peppers. I get her fresh ones and she goes crazy for them. The others eat them, but they don't get in a frenzy about it like she does! lol

I also buy the cheap cayenne pepper at Big Lots and sprinkle it all over the ground where the sprouts come up... seems to keep ants away and when the birds forage for their sprouts their beaks are solid red...

But I buy the big boxes mainly to put around the pepper plants and dust them down with it usually every other day.....

No squirrels ever touch the peppers or my flowering hanging plants. Too2
