Hi I wrote sometime ago. I've been waiting for around two/four years for a quaker. I've been learning about and reading on thru this site. Also, I knew this guy who had this baby quaker, who said was breeding and would give me one, but for some reason we lost touch and since that time i felt in love with that quaker. So, well now i was so excited when i brought him home, i will call him he (i don't know its sex) on the 19th of June. He was born on Mar. on the 11th. I finally chose a name for him, all a coincedence that all the name i chose were with the letter P. I ask all my friends which names they like. Pepito, Prince, Pepper. So I finally let him chose and he reacted to Pepper. So Pepper is his name. I don't have a digit camera, but will take his picture soon with a regular camera. Anyway he is very gentle and very cute. I just would like to write more, but i justed wanted to let others reading this that I finally got the bird. Happy is my other bird, green-cheeked conure, and I have for four years now. Very beautiful he and well trained, he steps up and very used to me. I have not introduce them together yet but their aware of each other. Separate cages. Let out one at a time, eventually out together...Happy is let out all the time. For a couple of hours. They all sleep for 12 hours with a cover. So Pepper is getting the message, so he won't be irritable. And is refreshed in the morning. So he can get into routine. I love them both and I am happy. fun. I anyone has any tips, on anything please be free to add. :) |

Congratulations, BredBluesky! Quakers are really cute ... I fell in love with two of them a few months ago. Fortunately, I didn't have the money for them, as I really can't get anymore birds at present! I'm looking forward to hearing all about Pepper and Happy, and seeing pictures once you have them! Congrats on your new baby. I think Pepper is a cute name and works for either sex. I have one as well. He isn't sexed yet and his name is Jade. He is a blue and I've waited years for one of these. He's younger than yours, hatch date is May 5th. He's still on one feeding a day and eats everything I put in there for him. I have always loved Quakers. My daughter (not a bird person) has one too. A green female named Charlie. They are a lot of fun. Peggy |

Thanks to all who reply. I know that you have to touch, pet, and handle the birdie. So that Pepper won't scream. He/she really screams very lot. wow, I didn't realize it. I hope my neighbors don't say anything. Right now the cage is half cover, and it only 5:30 pm. Normally Pepper and Happy (Green Cheek Conure) who by the way does not scream. He is well adjusted. I guess with time passing by, Pepper will cease to scream. I hope. I love him/she very much and He I guess I'll say that he's a male whatever, learns. Does anyone have any suggestions. Please be free to add.Oh and Pepper does not bite hard at all. Cool. |

Just my opinion: The quaker that I had was also a "screamer". It seems to be their normal tone of voice. Perhaps the frequency of the outbursts may diminish in time, but perhaps not. You might try offering him one feeding of baby-bird food each evening, to make sure that he is comfortably full. It's always possible that Pepper isn't entirely ready to be fully weaned. That happens sometimes. If that's not the case, and he checked out perfectly during the first vet check, then you may have to adjust your expectations. Pepper may never be as undemanding and quiet as Happy, who is an unusual conure. |

i had a quaker named cricket who was a bit of a screamer and right now I have a senegal who is sometimes as well. I find that what helpep with them is trying to get them to talk instead and then give them a reward when they are quiet. If Gizmo--the senegal starts to scream i will repeat one or two phrases that he likes to say and soon --after I say them about 2 or 3 times --he begins to repaeat them back to me--forgetting he was screaming. Of course I realize that your bitd isnt talking yet but sometimes if you talk to him in a calm voice using his name etc he may quiet down to listen to you. |

Yes, brdldy, that's my recommendation also. It works with my Quaker, who can get noisy at times. They just need a little sweet talk. Psychology works with pets too! love&peace~ pamee |
