Good morning from Boston:
Running for the Hills!
The Princess is a green-cheeked Amazon who is approximately twenty-six years old and has been my companion for almost twenty-five. For the past few months, I cannot take her into the bathroom because she launches herself at me, whacks into my head, and they tries to tear off an ear. She also do does this in other rooms but without the ear damage. In the morning, the slashes at me, and I know that she would cheerfully take a chunk out of me because I have the bruises to prove it.
Does anybody know what is going on here? I never thought I'd be really afraid of a pet, but this is getting really old really fast. Wing clipping would probably be an answer, but it's still too cold in Boston to take her out to the groomer (who is a grumpy old lady, making the trip even more fun).
Am I doing something to trigger this, or is this normal spring behavior for a semi-adult Amazon? Does anyone have any advice for calming her? As a rule, she is not caged but confined to one room while I'm at work, and I think caging her would just make the situation worse. It's as though she is supremely angry with me, and I cannot figure out what I'm doing to offend her. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks,
The Princess' Mom
