The somewhat bedraggled and worn out feathers of WHAT????? (why some have dark shafts, a few with white, I don't know. They came from the same bird) |

I'm going to say Harley because he is younger than Phoebe, and the feathers look really good. Nan |

Interesting observations. These are almost all from Harley, although I think maybe one or two are from Phoebe. While I was photographing, I couldn't figure out why at least one of them was so much paler than the others. Now I remember that when I got Phoebe, I noticed that her tail was a slightly different shade Harley's. I haven't compared them lately. I think that going from the left of them, the 4th and 6th are from Phoebe. So EVERYONE is right ! |

Hmmm, Looks to me like the ones with the white shafts came from one bird and the dark ones from the other. The red is lighter on those, too. Annie |

I'll have to pay more attention to the shaft color when they moult now. I looked at both of them and all the feathers I can see have dark shafts. Not sure why those few are white. They could have been from the central part of the tail, those seem to have thicker shafts. Now I'm so curious. But I'm not risking my fingers today, to check Phoebe's tail. |

Hoooweee - Do those greys have any tailfeathers left? lol. Smee Grey's feathers change color with her diet. Tropical fruit - more vivid color. When she gets on a nut kick, the colors aren't as "bright". Weird. Noticed it with Rainbow/B&G, too. His colors are brighter now that he's been living with me and eating lot's of exotic fruits/more veggies. |

Hey, tiva. Lot's of Mango, papaya and kiwi. Can't swear on it but when they go for long periods of time without it their feathers seem duller. Give it a try. They seem to love it. If you can't get them to eat them, try mushing it into oatmeal. My fids LOVE Irish steel cut oatmeal. Takes forever to cook but worth it. |
