Hi I am Mrs Fritters, I was looking at the Bird Care Articles and came across the one on Anti-Feather Picking Formula and had some questions. First I found the items on a online health food store. My local ones don't have them. But that is where the questions started. They have alot of different kinds and have it with different add ins it. Both of our big birds have picking problems. We need to know which brand that you used. Thanks Mrs Fritters |

Hey, Mrs Fritters, Abby beat me to the punch. I was gonna tattle on Mr Fritters. He says awful things about you, you know? That anti pick formula, written by our own esteemed member Toolady, also known as Scots and assorted other stuff, didn't work for me. My ekkie, Diana, has been plucking to nekkidness for 8 years though and I doubt that anything can cure her. Some people have had luck with the Bach Flower Remedy. I didn't. I have used almost every remedy known to womankind and nothing helps. You need to stay home and watch that man. Annie |

Hi Mrs Fritters, I have a plucking Goffin's 'Too, and an Alexandrine that hormonally barbers her feathers when she gets broody. I've tried several things. Most helped a little.. none have made a great deal of difference. Chamomile tea to drink & adding aloe vera, chickweed and calendula extracts to their bath water each helped alittle; removing peanuts from the diet didn't seem to make a difference with mine... After trial & error and watching, I think Rica's is mostly hormonal and a little bit behavioral. She barbers seasonally. She regrows feathers every winter, and every spring/summer off the feathers come- tail included when she gets broody. She does leave her wing feathers and her down though. She will also barber a few feathers if locked in her cage too long. I think Kit's is mostly behavioral with a few hormones thrown in since he does it all year through... a nervous habit. Both are rehomes, both have issues that lead me to suspect neglect or abuse. Either way, all we can do is try to figure out why they do it and attempt to correct it, pray we get lucky and try to see that they are as happy as they can be. JMHO |

I typed an answer last night while listening to reviews of a show... ........not a good thing at all as my reply didn't make sense ...... I had mentioned that a lady from my cockatoo group has had much success with feather pickers.. She also has an online shop and sells leather collars also feather picking formula.. Madeleine wrote an article for the AFA on this subject and her success with 6 birds, including Too's and Grey's.. I can email you info if you'd like? Too2.. |
