I hope this is the correct spot to post this...and i'm sure many of you know about this already, but i didn't know til just the other day!
My vacuum had bit the dust, and the hubby was in the dog house lol, so it was time for a new vacuum...and due to the latter situation, i was going to get a good one lol
and him, having expesive taste, was looking at one of the much higher end ones than what i was looking at.  He was showing me the various features on it, when something caught my eye....the filters have a teflon coating!!!  I pointed it out to him, and that was the end of the interest in THAT vacuum!  I didn't know they were doing this!  I checked the vacuum that i picked out, it doesn't have it, and i'll never buy another vacuum without checking for this.  I just thought I'd post it up, in case anyone else is looking at buying a new vacuum, make sure it doesn't have teflon coated filters!

Happy Housecleaning lol

Thank you!! I had no idea. If the filter doesn't get hot it won't be a danger but still, it's good to know. What is wrong with mfgrs these days? It's proven that Teflon is a hazard to humans. You'd think the mfgrs would stop that nonsense.

So, what vacuum did you end up getting?  I've had an Oreck and wasn't inpressed and now have a Dyson that I love.  Don't tell me it was the Dyson!?!?!? GAAAKKKKK!

It's okay to post brand names here. di

If you use a steam Iron, check those too.  I sew for the public and my old Iron bit the dust (Manny helped by knocking it off the ironing board.)
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an iron without teflon on the base!  I finally did, a Black & Decker.   Hair blow dryers are another thing hard to find without teflon.

Yes, I went thru the same with the iron and ended up with a Black and Decker, too, and I have to say I do love it.  Still waiting to hear more on the vacuums,  di

Nobody better knock my iron over. I've had it for 17 years and I do not want another one. I still have the one we got when we got married almost 49 years ago. It works, too.

Thank you so much for the heads-up, Twin! It seems that every time we turn around, that stuff is being put in something new. When I go shopping for things, the clerks must cringe when they see me coming! I ask so many questions, and if they don't have the answers, I ask them to please find someone who does, or else look them up! lol

We sure have to be ever-vigilant when it comes to the susceptible respiratory systems of our birds!

What brand and model was the vacuum that had the teflon-coated filters, Twin?

Abby

Wow, that's scary. I don't know if I'd have thought to look for teflon in a vacuum filter! I don't need a vac here right now <<<knocking on wood>>> as I have an Electrolux shop vac that's close to as old as I am and still going strong. I don't have any carpets here either. I have wood floors and mostly use an industrial dust mop.

I wound up getting a Hoover, it doesn't even have the same kind of filtration system as whatever that one was :)  I think it just has the hepa.
My iron is a sunbeam, several years old...i didn't know there could be teflon on those!  lol this is turning into quite the learning spot isnt it? lol
I doubt it does though, old and cheap hehe and i rarely use it

I wanted a waffle maker for so long, it is impossible to find a new one without teflon, I went to a flea market and got lucky.  One from the 50's that still had the box and even the book.  I took it outside and cured it, no teflon, just cast iron plates that remove from the heating elements and it works great!

I have one like that and mine also sits on the hearth. Mine has the iron handle. You are just bit classier than me. Too funny.
