 | I love watching "Clean Sweep" and "How Clean Is Your House". On one hand I shudder to see how closely some of those rooms resemble some of mine, but then I get inspired to see how it can be dealt with if I just dig in. Hubby and I have decided to hire a dumpster this spring once the snow is gone and the ground has firmed up and dryed! I know if we totally empty a room like they do on these shows and then do the piles on tarps out in the yard, I will be better able to make good decisions on what goes back in. What do you think:  start by bringing in the necessary furniture.  Like the bed and dresser for the spare bedroom.  Then the shelving unit.  Then the bedding that is used regularly.  I have a LOT of mismatched sheets, pillowcases, and just don't throw them out or donate, which I know I should. I have a hard time buying stuff when I know I have useable items at home.  Even when I don't use it often cause it doesn't have matching pillowcases or maybe the fitted sheet.... But I am determained to reclaim my home!       |

 | Hi -- here is a tip for you. Before you get to doing your own version of Clean House, pick up the book "Organized from the Inside Out" -- because she gives good advice on how to plan what to do with a room before you attack it. That way, after you pull everything out, you will have a game plan on how things will go back in. If you don't want to read the book, I know that it is also available on cassette tape. I got my copy on amazon.com -- The big difference between Clean House or Clean Sweep and our lives is that they have a cleaning crew, a painting crew, a carpenter, a professional organizer and a designer all doing this in one day. We often are on our own, or have maybe one helper. So, having a game plan is really important. I plan to do something similar with my office, by the way, although I won't use a dumpster. But I am going to pull everything out -- and refer to my game plan/design before putting stuff back. It's really worth doing the mental work before the physical work, to keep yourself from getting overwhelmed. Please let us know how it goes, OK? -- Brenda |
