This is something I dread -- a long, drawn out sickness - because everything goes to hell in a hand basket.

Of course, I am fortunate in that I don't have kids, or a hubby to pick up after. It's just me and the critters.

Unfortunately, the critters -- two cats, a dog and two birds -- do generate messes. Lately, my 14-year-old dog isn't letting me know when he has to go out, or he's getting up in the middle of the night -- and he has pooped in various spots on the livingroom carpet -- in corners behind things, of course.

He's a little dog, and lately his tummy is bothering him, so it's this icky wet stuff that either smears or sticks to the carpet like cement. I just poured some liquid Tide on some of the spots, hoping the enzymes will cut through some of it and make it easier to get out of the carpet.

On top of which, I am now going into my 14th day with the flu, and it REALLY sucks. However, the various messes were making me nuts, so I psyched myself up and cleaned the litter box -- including washing it down -- vacuumed all the cat litter tracked around the bathroom and into the livingroom, vacuumed the livingroom rug (completely filled the vac's container with cat hair), stripped my sheets off the bed, and made a swipe at the bathtub. That was all I had enough energy for.

I also made myself a couple of decent meals, but now the sink is full of dishes again.

Oh yes -- also dragged the two garbage cans out to the curb which -- because my downstairs neighbor has a fence that goes all the way around the house -- means dragging the cans around my house and the house next door and down the street to where it will get picked up. That was a bit rough, since I have been coughing myself raw lately.

I had to do my usual  workload for the newspaper this week and last, so that's not helping with the recovery. Today, I just said 'screw the job' and stayed home. Tomorrow is Good Friday and everything will be closed, which means I won't be able to call anyone for information for stories, so I will be overwhelmed when Monday rolls around -- but a body can only take so much, and this one is sooooooooooooooooooo tired.

Still, I felt better after I got rid of the messes that I did. I really cannot stand bad smells, and can you imagine the combination of cat box, dog poop and old garbage????

I also cracked the livingroom window open a bit, even though there's a howling wind out there today. I just needed to get some clean air into this place. Am about to head to bed on my clean sheets -- that's a nice feeling, too -- Brenda

Luckily I did the clean sheets on Tuesday as well   Wish I'd done the trash as now the can is full & I've had to start a new bag   I know why I don't do that chore, it's the very long walk to the dumpster.  That & I can get my son to do it when he comes over on Sunday for me LOL  Delegate

Isn't 14 days a long time to have the flu?  Are you sure you haven't got an upper respiratory at this point?

Brenda I feel so bad for you!  I know the feeling........ I just got over a really bad case of whatever the hell I had and it took about 2 weeks too.  The hospital said it was acute asthmatic bronchitis and my doctor says it was a really bad cold with asthmatic bronchitis.  I had my flu shot, but found out that this year the strains of flu out there are not covered by the shot, but nobody said it was the flu.  But I can sympathize with you, I was weak beyond belief, and it was a struggle to get out of bed and do anything.  I also live alone, and just recently lost my cat, so I am really alone now, but at least I only had myself to tend to.  I don't know how you did it with you and the pets.  My hat is off to you!  Rest up this weekend, and get better! I'm pulling for you!

Brenda, try baking soda and apple cider vinegar. i some times have to pour more soda and then vinegar to get the real bad stuff out of carpets as i have berber. but it works real good IF u left it dry completely before vaccuuming. this obviously is after u get as much poop off as u can at 1st.
