Hi - I just quit my job at the weekly newspaper to take a new job for a brand new online-only publication. It actually hasn't launched yet, so I have a week or so inbetween leaving one job and starting another to try and get some control of my clutter. Most important to me is to clean out my home office since I will be working from home pretty much full-time. Also, the people who hired me will be coming here to set me up with a new computer, etc. I have to say, I am a bit distressed to see how far I have back-slid in my clutter. The only thing that has saved me is being firm with myself about not bringing home more stuff -- at least most of the time that has worked. I do have a mirror sitting at the bottom of the stairs - no place to put it up at the moment - that I found at the dump. It is a cool mirror, but that's not the point, is it? Stuff stops being "cool" when it just gets piled in with other stuff that also doesn't have anywhere to go. I realize I am not going to be able to clear out everything I have accumulated since I moved here three years ago, but I figure I can do a few things that give me the biggest bang for the buck, and build on that sense of accomplishment as I move into the new job. I told my new employer that I am adament about not letting this job take over my life. I will be making a bit more money, but the main purpose of changing jobs is to be able to live a balanced life -- which means time and energy for other pursuits, seeing my friends and family, getting exercise, eating real meals, sleeping 8 hours a night. That's the goal! How is everyone else doing? Summertime can be stressful in terms of the kids being home from school, people dropping by, lots of more interesting things to do than clean up clutter. -- Brenda |

I spent most of May being revoltingly ill with an intestinal thingy It was only when I was too sick to move that I realized how much I had let stuff slide Then whilst still in the recuperative stage, I developed a pinched nerve from my annoying herniated disks that is quite painful down my right leg I find I am really struggling to get back on track here as I am not yet 100% from the intestinal thingy plus the leg pain is irksome & interferes not only with getting stuff done, but wakes me up a lot as well, so I am not getting any decent sleep lately, either |

I spent 2 months searching for my adult daughter and going to court, since she went for a walk and never came home. she didnt much care that she left her daughter w/ no means for seeing all the medical specialists (8 docs total right now). she had planned to give us guardianship but i guess things werent moving as fast as she wanted them. that and trying to keep up w/ our flooding basement while manning the flood victims food pantry and helping out there as much as possible. been just a trifle busy! we finally have guardianship! but when we returned home, i actually saw what i have done to my house! 4 rooms that were completely clutter-free were so bad i couldnt find some of the furniture! 1 room is done w/ 1 well on its way but 2 - not even close! then of course there's my bedroom! its more like a storage room for clothes and papers threw up! we've been sleeping down stairs lately, so it hasnt been used much. |

Hi Mrs Dee -- wow, you have been dealing with a LOT, haven't you? And yes, things do tend to go to hell in a hurry, when "life" strikes. I am pretty distressed at the mess my place has fallen into, only in part because of the job change, but also my mind has gotten all jumbled by trying to keep up with previous commitments to two community gardens, and now my apartment - which is quite large for one person -- reflects my state of mind.... It's funny, too, because until I clear out the clutter in the apartment, it also will make my mind feel cluttered... in other words, it is a two-way street. I hope things smooth out for YOU and I am inspired by your message to get back to clearing stuff up here, one pile at a time. -- Brenda |
