Hi -- can anyone give me some tips, some inspiration on how to get started on cleaning up clutter when you are feeling overwhelmed to the point of wanting to cry? I didn't think I'd get to this point again. That alone, is depressing. But that kind of emotional state just gets in the way. So, I need some help from y'all. -- Brenda

hopin this goes thru as MSN has been havin' fits on me tonight!

i felt the same way since April! finally gave myself permission to be an awful housekeeper. next thing i know i cleaned up a spot that was only 10 ft by 10 ft but it looked good.

told hubby he had 1 thing to get rid of in each room. guess what? there still there but i havent said a word. let him say sumfin to me 1st then i will blast him! LOL! we have had a rough time these past few months but things r getting on an even keel now.

this week i need to go to town cuz i'm having a rummage sale at end of the week. i need to clear clutter from (mostly paper) each room (thats 9) and then get stuff together, clean it and price it. and i'm procrastinating!

I find I get motivated by:

1) the threat of company LOL
2) a desperate need for something (like clean dainties or a certain piece of paper)
3) buying something new always leads to cleaning (not new as in more clutter but new as in either replacing something you already have that is ancient or malfunctional, or getting something I've coveted for a long time that needs to have a good home somewhere)
4) small bites often lead to bigger bites (tidy a tiny area or declutter for a timed byte, sometimes a lil progress begets more)
5) polishing faucets or anything chromed or shiny (yesm I know tis weird but when the faucet or door handles are shiny & sparkling you wanna clean around em so they have a splendid setting.....at least I do)

O I forgot one....counterclockwise around a room's edges.....start at one corner & work your way around & then keep spiraling smaller till you hit the middle & voila you're done

I find this very true.  I've been painting and find that when the walls look so nice, you need to do more in your environment to support the nice looking walls, LOL.

I have a lot of work to do in this place.  I moved in with a pack-rat and I'm slowly, but surely, seeing a change.
