I have read these boards off and on for years. I have never posted but have gotten great advice and support knowing we are not alone.

Our story is much like others here; something not right from birth, in trouble at school since 2nd grade, DX w/ADD, ADHD, ODD, D, BP, BPD......, has been medicated since he was 9. Has been hospitalized and in juvie at least 3 times each.... that we know of. I could go on but those that have a P know the life we have lived. I’ve often thought about writing a book about dealing with P. I know that WHEN he does what he has threatened I WILL answer the question everyone ask; “how did this happen?

My DH has joint custody but it doesn’t mean anything. We spent 10 years trying to get this child help only to be blocked by his mother and the “system? Eighteen months ago we did the only thing we could we started NC, at the time he was 16. Well last month we got an email that he is going to be a father and would like for us to be a part of his families life. To date we have gotten together once for dinner, chatted on the phone, and exchanged a couple emails…?red flags are flying high. We know what we are dealing with and not sure having a relationship with the grandchild is possible considering we are dealing with P. In addition the mother is 16 and her family seems to have their own agenda.

We know that NC is best for us but as parents we still hold out hope that a relationship is possible. P will be 18 in a couple months and just as many here have found it doesn’t change the fact that we are parents who love our children.

Looking for suggestions and support.

I suspect his offer is a semi-blatant olive branch really looking for $$$.

You know, if you do make contact, be prepared to end it ASAP when and if things turn sour.

Hi Best.pleased to meet you.

I agree with fem re the money etc.and also, what better tool to use against us than a defenceless baby who is our own flesh and blood?

I hope the girls family are a good family.cos she is going to need all the help she can get.

Ps will use anything to hurt and blackmail and ultimately try and destroy us.....and we are almost powerless when it involves our grand children.

It would be nice to think that parenthood and the responsibility that comes with it would be the one thing that sorts these kids out...takes a boy and makes him into a man....unfortunately, from my own experience, this wasn't the case.

P daughter seemed to have had a miraculous change once her baby arrived.yet again was another deceitful mask......and the baby is nothing more than useful to her.

You are not alone, we have all been there, we know how hard it is for you. I wish you all the luck.
